International Resident Student Retention Specialist (GA)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist the Associate Director of International Student Services to improve retention of international students, especially from 2nd to 3rd year and 3rd to 4th year and may be asked to aid in recruiting efforts to meet the numerical goals from the International territory. This is a 9-month Academic GA position reserved for graduate students of BJU.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement strategies that improve international student retention rates

Meet individually with each international student to assess retention health Proactively inquire about positive and negative experiences in academic progress, social integration, cultural communication, spiritual health, and school expectations, etc. Design and execute activities which provide international students with a sense of belonging Be alert to the needs of the international students by noticing those who are struggling or who are dealing with significant issues Keep work supervisor and resident supervisors informed concerning the needs of international students Communicate with Student Life, Center for Global Opportunities (CGO), Academic Resource Center (ARC), faculty, and other campus partners regarding international student concerns

Oversee & advise the International Student Organization (ISO) Assist in planning and executing New International Student Orientation at the beginning of each semester Provide support to BJU international recruitment efforts

Some travel may be required

Be on call and available to advise for international student emergency medical needs, including assisting with insurance claims Uphold BJU's spiritual expectations

Grow in biblical counseling proficiency through experience & study Communicate the religious beliefs of BJU to international students & affiliates, answering questions concerning faith, doctrine, and creed of BJU. Maintain positive & constructive spirit.

Work with the campus database system to save all communications Perform additional office functions as assigned REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Native fluency in at least one foreign language is essential (Chinese, Korean or Spanish) Experience working and studying abroad Demonstrate strong organizational and analytical skills Ability to relate well to people from diverse cultures Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to plan and implement goals Strong computer experience with technology applications Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Excellent customer service and public relations skills Professional presentation experience COMPUTER SKILLS & PROGRAMS
