Position Summary
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) Hub provides career-related and professional development programming, primarily for students pursuing degrees in CLASS disciplines. The director of the CLASS Hub is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering all programming, including new and recurrent programming, directing all Hub operations, and fostering partnerships across campus to deliver broad career-related and professional development services. The director will also facilitate individualized career pathway advising, teach a course per semester within a CLASS department, and collaborate with external stakeholders to create professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Three years of experience in higher education.
One year of experience directing career services, student success programming, or a student services center in an academic college.
Demonstrated experience developing employer relationships to establish internship, recruitment, and hiring opportunities.
Demonstrated experience helping students understand how CLASS disciplines translate to career pathways.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate the career value and transferable skills of liberal arts and social science disciplines to students, employers, and other stakeholders.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
Ability to build productive partnerships with diverse stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, alumni, employers, and community members.
Ability to collaborate with CLASS faculty to connect discipline-specific knowledge and skills to career pathways and professional opportunities.
Willingness to work evening and weekend hours as necessary to support programming and events.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and student success or CRM platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in a related field.
Demonstrated experience with event planning in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated experience managing affiliation agreements.
Demonstrated experience with grant writing in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate students in a CLASS discipline.
Duties & Responsibilities Strategic and Operational
Designs, implements, and directs the overall CLASS Hub strategy and messaging.
Works with the CLASS coordinator for recruitment and community outreach to co‑design and implement CLASS Hub career pathways advising materials.
Partners with university and community stakeholders to create and maintain CLASS Hub programming.
Partners with CLASS departments and programs to produce and promote department‑specific and program‑specific professional development programming.
Directs the planning and coordination of alumni and employer engagement events.
Supervises CLASS Hub staff to ensure consistent office coverage and a welcoming atmosphere.
Ensures that support is available for campus registered student organizations (RSOs) using the CLASS Hub space.
Oversees record keeping and inventory of CLASS internship affiliation agreements.
Coordinates CLASS representation at relevant university, college, department, and program events.
Advisory
Provides career pathways advising to CLASS students on an individual basis and ensures similar mentoring can be provided by CLASS Hub student workers, where appropriate.
Developmental
Works with CMU Advancement or other relevant stakeholders to direct CLASS Hub efforts to retain external funding and create CLASS‑specific internship opportunities.
Instructional
Teaches one or two courses per academic year in a CLASS department or program.
