Primary Purpose of Organization Unit The purpose of TRIO SSS STEM is to provide services to participants to help improve their academic performance, progress them to degree completion, and prepare them for graduate school and/or professional program. Services provided includes: academic support, enhanced academic advising, career awareness, personal counseling, graduate school preparation, cultural awareness, and financial literacy.

Primary Purpose of Position The Retention Specialist is responsible for leading the retention and degree completion efforts of TRIO SSS STEM. The position will collect, analyze, and report data related to the academic progress and academic performance of participants The Retention Specialist will conduct intakes to access academic need, monitor participants' academic progress, and help participants design academic plans to achieve their goals. The Retention Specialist will provide academic counseling regarding academic progress and strategies to improve academic performance. The Retention Specialist will also create and host a variety of workshops, activities, and events to improve participants' academic and educational experience. This position will also identify participants who are on Academic Probation and participants with early alert referrals to coordinate efforts in creating a plan to improve their academic performance. Additionally, the position will identify participants who are not registered for classes and address the needs of those participants. The position will collaborate with TRIO STEM staff and campus partners to improve the academic and educational experience of participants; provide required and permissible services to TRIO SSS participants

Note: This is a time-limited, grant funded position through August 31, 2030.
