Senior Events Manager

The Senior Events Manager works within the Events department at the RCC and reports to the director of events. It serves as a lead event manager for high priority events (e.g., those with large attendance numbers (3,000+), multiple days and nights, and significant impact to Downtown Raleigh). The incumbent must display a mastery-level of the event planning process by effectively communicating with both external and internal stakeholders to implement successful conferences, trade shows, sporting competitions, special events, as well as a diverse variety of other experiences. The senior events manager displays advanced skill in developing and maintaining business relationships of this magnitude and handling events that can span the entire complex and/or over multiple years. This position frequently interacts with and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders to implement successful conferences, trade shows, sporting competitions, special events, as well as a diverse variety of other experiences. In addition to handling high priority, more complex events, the senior events manager functions as a lead over the events managers and event coordinator, as well as temporary Events staff. About You: The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience and success managing high-profile, multi-stakeholder events from concept through execution - preferably at a convention center. Candidates must be adept at building and maintaining strong relationships with clients along with proactively anticipating and resolving their needs and challenges. Candidates must be resilient and calm under pressure and be able to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Also, the senior events manager must be a mentor to other Events staff and have the ability to inspire and collaborate well with others. The Raleigh Convention Center (RCC) holds hundreds of prominent convention and entertainment events each year. The RCC's Events team works closely with clients in the overall planning, production and execution of events. Our modern 500,000 square-foot facility includes a stunning granite lobby with dramatic windows and downtown views, an elegant ballroom, and a massive exhibit hall, all with outstanding tech amenities and award-winning culinary delights. We also are in the midst of a major expansion which will double the size of our convention center by 2028 and attract even more high priority events to Raleigh. Work Hours: This position operates during standard office hours between Monday and Friday. However, workdays and hours are subject to change based on the events schedule and on-site coverage requirements, including early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays, as needed. Duties and Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Plans, organizes logistics, and manages event operational activities knowledge and experience, particularly with large, high priority RCC events (e.g., those with large attendance numbers (3,000+), that have a significant impact to Downtown Raleigh; provides oversight of resource scheduling, staffing, production coordination, and marketing activities. Fulfills and reviews contract requirements and contractual obligations and occasionally negotiates fees and expenditures with clients. Performs administrative events management duties including preparing schedules and maintaining schedule changes, conducting planning meeting, preparing estimates and work orders, addressing issues, communicating with operations team on facility requirements, and monitoring budgeting and contractual agreements. Responsible for building and maintaining positive relationship and communications with venue users. Serves as a key facility liaison to clients regarding all of event planning and advancement. Prepares and disseminates event information to all internal departments, outside partners/contractors and key stakeholders. Meets with clients to gather event details and client requirements; collaborate on scheduling, event layout and logistics; reviews and verifies requirements and safety procedures based on event, location and facility space. Serves as the event manager on duty for assigned while investigating and resolving client/customer complaints in-person. Serves as lead in assigning tasks and monitoring work completion or may supervise staff including coordinating training. Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: Associate's Degree in Technical Theatre Production, Recreation, Public Administration, Event Management, or related field; 5 to 7 years' experience in theatrical production management, event management, or related field OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted Additional Information

Modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard office equipment and computer applications such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications Skill In: Customer service Coaching, training, and leading the work of others Interpersonal communication Ability To: Use Computer Aided Drafting/Drawing (CAD) and relevant live entertainment software/applications Provide direction to others to complete tasks with the safe and correct operation of tools and equipment Read and comprehend tech riders/stage plots/drafts Organize and maintain event documentation, schedules, records, and files ADA and Other Requirements: Work Environment and Physical Effort: Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment or a street environment (near moving traffic).
