Blue Core Craft is a growing manufacturer of high-quality marine upholstery and components. We work directly with leading OEMs to design and manufacture premium boat seating systems. Our focus is on combining craftsmanship with advanced CAD and CNC technology to deliver upholstery solutions that perform in demanding marine environments.
We are looking for an experienced
Upholstery Designer
to join our team. This position is responsible for designing and developing marine seating and upholstery systems from concept through production. The role requires a strong understanding of upholstery construction (foam, vinyl, sewing, quilting) combined with advanced CAD skills, particularly in SolidWorks assemblies and 2D technical drawings. The designer will work closely with engineering, upholstery, and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, efficient, and meet marine‑grade performance standards.
Responsibilities
Design and develop
marine seating and upholstery systems , including foam shapes, patterns, and quilt designs
Create and manage
SolidWorks assemblies , 2D drawings, and supporting documentation for production
Translate design concepts into manufacturable solutions that balance comfort, style, and durability
Prepare and optimize CAD files for CNC equipment (Zund Cutter, AXYZ Router, Laser Engraver, ABM Quilter)
Collaborate with upholsterers, sewing teams, and production staff to support prototyping and first‑article builds
Review prototypes and finished products to ensure fit, finish, and quality align with design intent
Maintain organized design libraries, revision histories, and part databases
Identify and implement improvements to streamline production and reduce rework
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in
marine upholstery design
or related industries (marine, automotive, RV, or specialty seating)
Strong proficiency in
SolidWorks , with the ability to manage large, complex assemblies
Knowledge of upholstery construction methods: foam cutting, patterning, sewing, quilting
Experience creating and interpreting technical drawings and templates
Familiarity with marine‑grade materials and construction standards
Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing OEM upholstery for boats
Hands‑on upholstery or prototyping experience
Knowledge of CNC nesting and file preparation for upholstery equipment
