The Field Director, MSL (FD) plans, directs, coordinates and supports the activities of the Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) within a designated geographic region to achieve scientific and business objectives within Dermatology Medical Affairs. This includes coaching and mentoring for MSLs in the region. The FD reports to the National Director and works cross-functionally within Medical Affairs to identify, develop, implement, and monitor MSL strategies and tactics. Duties include strategic planning, financial management, personnel management, performance management, regional awareness and expertise, data analysis, generation of metrics, material management, professional development, training, support, and execution of organizational goals and objectives. Responsibilities
People Leadership and Development: Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to MSLs regarding performance and progress, including annual performance reviews, growth and succession planning, and real-time field reports based on regular field travel and data analysis. Addresses performance issues decisively and appropriately in accordance with AbbVie’s guidelines and Performance Excellence process. Regional Execution of Field-Medical Strategy: Maximize In-Field Team Effectiveness. Ensure MSLs maintain adequate communications with the field sales organization when appropriate and compliant. Ensure cross-functional collaboration with field-medical partners in Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Medical Value and Access, Site Management and Monitoring teams. Team Development and Field Execution: Ensure MSLs have necessary tools, training, and materials to perform effectively. Identify and partner on projects that would enhance organizational impact and/or lead to successful execution of therapeutic Medical Objectives. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure team adherence to applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies, maintain databases with current information, document EE/HCP customer interactions and responses to unsolicited requests, and manage activities within assigned budget. Territory includes: TX, OK, LA, MS, AL, AR Qualifications
Advanced scientific degree required (PharmD, PhD, MD, PA, NP). Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline. 3-5 years’ experience (greater than 7 years preferred) with demonstrated leadership success in pharmaceutical field-based or industry roles; Dermatology/Immunology experience preferred. Flexibility in adapting to changing market dynamics and competitive challenges; tolerance for ambiguity; high sense of urgency and commitment to excellence; strong planning and organizational skills. Teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to work across districts, regions, and departments. Excellent analytical, conceptual, and administrative skills; strong written and oral communication and presentation skills; problem solving and negotiation abilities; proficiency with standard computer technologies. Ability to influence without authority; demonstrated strong business judgment; ability to manage multiple priorities and translate business needs into opportunities. Knowledge of personnel management including recruitment, hiring, progressive discipline, coaching and motivation. Additional Information
The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation for this role as posted; actual pay is determined by geographic location and other factors and may be modified in the future. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) for eligible employees. This job is eligible to participate in short-term incentive programs. Note: No amount of pay is considered wages or compensation until earned, vested, and determinable.
