Job Description Summary

The Sales Manager (SM) executes the sales strategy of the hotel, as defined by the Director of Sales, to ensure that occupancy, average daily rate, and market share goals are achieved. This includes creating and implementing specific account and/or segment-based sales strategies and tactical plans. Production results will be monitored and adjusted to current market conditions to stay nimble and react advantageously to competitors. The SM will work directly with the DOS and the Regional leadership team to identify specific extended stay strategies and tactics to drive revenue according to the hotel’s seasonal demand.

The Sales Manager sets the tone for Sonesta’s Culture of Caring. We expect Sales Managers to focus on creating amazing moments for guests and team members and dig deep to find ways to create success for the team. The Sales Manager is responsible for supporting the Area Director of Sales & Marketing with the development and implementation of the total sales and marketing strategy for the Royal Sonesta Minneapolis Downtown. They will also be responsible for growing existing accounts and generating new business in order to maximize revenue and profits, and to improve the hotels' performance in the marketplace. Sonesta managers are charged with providing strategic vision, ensuring tactical execution, and actively supporting their department to achieve the company’s revenue and profitability goals and objectives. The ideal candidate has a passion for building and motivating teams that achieve results. Sonesta managers are guest-focused (both internal and external), achievement-oriented leaders.

Operational/Functional

Develop new accounts, maintain existing accounts, and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue goals and maximize profits for the hotel while maintaining guest satisfaction. Achieve budgeted revenues, sales goals, and maximize profitability within all areas of responsibility. Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget, the hotel sales and marketing plan, the annual and monthly forecast, and other assigned financial plans which support the overall objectives of the hotel. Develop a complete knowledge of company sales policies and SOPs and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team. Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities, develop marketing plans and set new proactive strategies. Prepare and present effective and persuasive presentations to prospective clients. Maintain and develop networking opportunities through active participation in community and professional associations, activities and events. Attend trade shows and major market events locally and nationally to promote new business and increase sales for the hotel. Promote teamwork and quality service through daily effective communication and coordination with other departments. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Strategy and Planning

Develop business plans, monitor the competition and market trends to maximize market share, guest satisfaction, profitability and employee engagement. Engage with guests and customers, obtain feedback and ensure guest expectations are always met and exceeded. Be a champion for the property by actively promoting the brand, being involved in the local community and building genuine and lasting relationships with local businesses, officials and various stakeholders.

Financial Management

Achieve budgeted revenues, control labor and maximize profitability. Work with Sales Team to develop a competitive pricing strategy to grow market share, occupancy, RevPAR and yield.

Qualifications and Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments. Extensive knowledge of hotel and hospitality industry. Delphi and Opera PMS experience a plus. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Work Environment and Travel

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment; most tasks are performed indoors. The role may require lifting items up to 50 lbs and pushing/pulling approximately 200 lbs; frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and mobility around the hotel. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality or related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive experience in a hospitality or hotel Sales and Marketing setting. Experience working with major hospitality brands preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $27.00 to $28.84 per hour. Non-Union: The base pay offered may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and overall experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance; paid vacation and sick days; holidays and personal days (floaters); 401(k) retirement plan.
