What You Will Be Doing

Under the guidance of the Engineering Director, the Travel Broadcast Engineer maintains the operational integrity and peak performance of essential radio frequency (RF) communication systems via skilled field installation, diagnostics, repair, and optimization activities conducted nationwide, ensuring high system uptime and compliance.

Critical to this role is a heart to serve and support, while also being an efficient multitasker with excellent communication skills and a keen attention to detail who can complete work accurately and efficiently with minimal oversight. This role requires being flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, deadlines, and requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

  • Install, set up, and configure radio communication equipment at various field locations. This can include transmitters, receivers, antennas, microwave links, STL codecs, remote controls, and associated networking hardware.
  • Perform system testing and commissioning to ensure newly installed or modified equipment meets design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance checks on RF systems and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Perform corrective maintenance, including diagnosing faults, repairing or replacing malfunctioning components often under time pressure.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve RF system performance issues, such as interference, signal degradation, or poor coverage.
  • Utilize specialized RF test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, power meters, TDRs) to measure system performance, diagnose problems, and verify repairs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of installations, maintenance activities, repairs performed, test results, and system configurations.
  • Maintain transmitter, lighting, and EAS logs as required for FAA and FCC compliance.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision in remote field environments.
  • Collaborate with director of engineering, other engineers, and key stakeholders to achieve project goals this would include transmitter sites as well as studios.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of radio frequency (RF) communication systems
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated experience working in field environments
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving RF system issues
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving IP audio systems
  • Authorized to work in the US legally without sponsorship
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, of five years equivalent experience in a related field
  • Experience in a media or broadcasting environment
  • Experience in non-profit ministry
  • Proven experience using standard RF test equipment (like spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, VSWR meters)
  • Experience with network configuration (IP addressing, subnetting) as it relates to modern radio systems
  • Experience with satellite uplink and downlink systems

This position requires regular regional travel, as well as occasional travel outside the assigned region as needed. The engineer currently supports transmitter sites in Indiana, including Kokomo, Anderson, Lafayette, Covington, and multiple locations in the Martinsville area. In addition, this role is expected to collaborate effectively with the broader engineering team and provide backup support at other Moody sites nationwide as needs arise.

This position operates in diverse environments, including transmitter facilities and other field locations. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods during installation, inspection, and maintenance activities.

The employee must regularly lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
