Job Description
Empower House provides transformative community health services, youth development programs, and advocacy opportunities that empower women and girls of color. We envision a world where all women and girls are empowered to transform themselves, their families, and their communities. Empower House Radio 101.5 is San Antonio’s pulse for advocacy, change, and community connection. Our mission is to amplify local content and shine a spotlight on the city’s most diverse stories. Our programming strives to uplift the powerful perspectives of women of color, voices of LGBTQ+ individuals, and create a space where inspiring, educational content elevates community voice.
The Radio Intern will work closely with the Empower House Radio Team to support the creation, editing, and scheduling of content for 101.5, The Empower House. This role offers hands‑on experience in radio production, audio editing, and community storytelling.
The ideal candidate for this position can share their passion for grassroots community transformation and connect their professional and volunteer experiences to our mission. Our organizational philosophy is based on understanding how sexism, racism, and other forms of oppression intersect, preventing women, girls, from attaining their full potential. Key Responsibilities
Research and pitch ideas for shows (2–3 stories, interviews, or segments per month)
Assist with coordinating recording schedules and logistics
Help identify and organize interviews with potential guests
Create and organize music playlists for scheduled programming
Support the development and maintenance of an audio archive for reuse and future programming
Edit audio for original recordings and nationally syndicated content with guidance from the radio team
Community Engagement & Collaboration
Support community members and staff with resources for producing radio content
Help sustain and build relationships with community partners and contributors
Assist in planning and leading radio‑focused events and workshops
Provide promotional support for shows and community‑created content
Key Skills and Qualifications
Alignment with Empower House values of Solidarity, Empathy, Collaboration, and Creativity
Strong teamwork and communication skills (written and verbal)
Research skills to support content development
Flexibility and ability to adapt to shifting schedules, especially around interviews and recordings
Basic audio editing skills preferred (experience with DeScript, Audacity, Adobe Audition, Izotope RX, or similar platforms)
Ability to attend meetings in person, over the phone, or via Zoom, occasionally for extended sessions
Enthusiasm for community-based storytelling and media production
