Alabama State University, WVAS-FM Radio Station invites applications to fill the vacant position of News Reporter I. The successful candidate will anchor newscasts, cover news events, and maintain 24-hour availability for news coverage as a full-time professional. The primary format of the station is jazz, but daily programming also includes blues and gospel as well as talk and sports offerings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare, write, and anchor daily and weekend newscasts and briefs
Maintain 24-hour availability for news coverage
Cover live and breaking news, news events, including news conferences, board and organization meetings, sports, university programs and governmental agencies
Conduct in-depth live and pre-recorded interviews
Host special news events, including election coverage, live new reports, weather bulletins, sports special, etc., as assigned News Director
Act as a correspondent for NPR-affiliate stations on regional stories of interest
Produce public affairs programs as required by the News Director and/or Program Director
Establish and maintain good news contacts on campus, and in the community
Work with and train students in newsroom operations
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree or 2 years of college level study, and 2 years of previous related experience in radio and/or television broadcasting required. Must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record, and willing to work non-traditional hours.
