In this role, you will lead the development and execution of our PR and communication strategies aimed at enhancing Old Dominion's reputation as a thought leader in the transportation industry. You will collaborate with both agency partners and internal teams to effectively position our brand as a benchmark for premium service and a model of community engagement. By driving positive media coverage and enhancing our corporate reputation, you will play a crucial role in expanding our influence as a responsible corporate citizen and leader in the business community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement public relations strategies that align with Old Dominion's business goals and industry leadership.
  • Manage relationships with PR agencies and oversee the search for new partners when necessary.
  • Create and achieve consensus on annual strategy briefs and collaborate with the PR agency on tactical plans.
  • Oversee the creation and approval of various PR content, including whitepapers, podcasts, and articles.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of PR campaigns alongside the agency on a regular basis.
  • Help manage the overarching Communication Master Plan.
  • Lead the corporate giving strategy, working closely with senior leadership to strengthen community partnerships.
  • Assess the impact of OD's charitable initiatives and recommend improvements.
  • Manage budgets, ensuring funds are allocated appropriately per leadership guidelines.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the company when required by leadership.
  • Craft press releases, speeches, and letters for leadership communication.
  • Stay informed about industry news and trends to identify communication opportunities and challenges.
  • Oversee media relations efforts, including training and participation in interviews, events, and award submissions.
  • Lead the internal communications team in developing materials that engage and inform employees.
  • Manage the ODTV system for effective internal communication across the organization.

Job Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 6+ years in public relations and communications, both internal and external.
  • Strong project management abilities to simultaneously handle multiple tasks, timelines, and budgets.
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills for diverse platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with media outlets and serving as a spokesperson.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and analytics.
  • Exceptional decision-making, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Proven ability to work with both virtual teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Expertise in crafting relevant content for various media channels.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide actionable insights.
  • Understanding of the transportation industry.
