Job Summary: Responsible for creating and constructing merchandise displays in Navy Exchange facilities. May perform clerical functions and drive in performance of duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Construct, arrange, and maintain effective and artistic visual merchandising presentation and displays in appropriate interior and exterior Exchange locations (walls, showcases, windows, shelves, counter tops, etc.).
Decorate designated areas such as showcases, ledges, shelves, and fixtures.
Set up focal display near entrances of Exchange to attract customer attention, including seasonal mood and special merchandising events.
Prepare appropriate signs, show cards, etc.
Work with store management personnel in connection with decoration and display requirements, including designing and assembling key department displays to highlight and identify principal merchandising efforts.
Set up mannequins, center counter column and shadow box displays as instructed.
Enter information into a computer for sign making; determine layout, color selection, color interpolation type (e.g., pica compensation).
Review and adjust copy to ensure compatibility with formats and that size and type specifications are compatible.
Plan schedules and transmit completed formats as required.
Utilize a desktop publishing program; prepare specifications for printed material and signs by item number, description, quantity, unit and estimated value.
Review final product against specification to ensure accuracy and completeness of design specifications.
Assist in determining signing formats to meet particular needs.
Receive requisitions from Exchange departments for specific sign printing projects.
Use sign machine and print display signs, produce flyers for sales events, price cards, show cards, signs and related work involving display of merchandise using various types and sizes of type, color and poster boards.
Deliver completed signs to requesting department and assist with installation.
Safekeep props, mannequins, tools, fixtures in storage area; maintain areas in a clean and orderly manner.
Maintain records/logs on duplicating and sign making services provided.
Procure materials and supplies needed to fulfill sign making assignments.
Takes publicity photographs and writes articles for placement in employee newsletter on sales and events.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Drivers license required for positions assigned driving responsibilities.
Climbing ladders and moderate lifting of objects occasionally weighing up to 50 lbs is a requirement of this position.
Minimum of 2 years experience demonstrating mechanical and artistic skills required for visual merchandising display and communication.
Experience may have been gained in operation of sign machines, graphics illustration, visual display or interior decoration.
Substitutions for experience: One year of education in specialized schools of interior decoration design or art may substitute for one year of experience if an average of 150 class hours a year is shown; one year education in an accredited college/university may substitute for each year of experience if an average of six semester hours a year included courses in interior decoration or design, architecture, commercial art or related fine arts courses.
