Overview
Scouting is essential to managing fruit crops in the most economical and environmentally friendly manner possible. Scouts provide growers with information about pest activity critical to pest management decisions. This position will assist in orchard and vineyard scouting in Antrim, Grand Traverse, and Leelanau counties. Daily activities will include checking and maintaining insect traps, evaluating plants for insects and diseases, assisting in research, and developing reports for growers. The ability to work independently, attention to detail, excellent note-taking, and practical written and verbal communication skills are essential. Applicants must have a good driving record. Previous work experience in agriculture or natural resources/conservation is ideal but optional, as HortSystems will train. This position will start in early to mid-May and finish in late August, with work hours varying between 40 and 45 hours per week. About HortSystems
