Position Announcement
The Kahlert Applied AI Institute is growing! We’re a collaborative, hardworking team of top performers producing high-quality work to serve all UVU faculty, students, and staff as well as the Utah community. We are leading the state of Utah in AI. If you have a bit of experience with generative AI, and a track record of success, we need your help.
This position can be an internship if applicable.
Position Summary This position may be a major career opportunity for anyone pursuing a career related to AI, storytelling, journalism, video production, marketing, or media development.
Your stories will be seen by tens of thousands of faculty and students (current and prospective), university administrators and presidents, legislators, and employers across Utah and beyond. There will be a permanent, public portfolio of your professional work.
As the AI Story Writer, you will report directly to the Senior Director of the Applied AI Institute, and you will be mentored by an industry leader at Utah TechBuzz (a popular media producer in Utah and expert in the craft of storytelling). In this role, you will become a pivotal member of the Applied AI Media Team, contributing your ideas and writing to videos and articles for courses and social media. You may also have a team lead supporting your work.
Example A Day in The Life
Receive feedback on the fifth draft of a video script and accompanying article, make edits, and send it back to stakeholders for another review.
Review a draft video that one of the videographers has been working on and give feedback.
Ask questions to humans and AI to develop a storyline and make it emotionally gripping.
Prioritize a mountain of feedback from others, based on alignment with stated vision, project goals, and deadlines, and team capabilities.
Update the project tracking tool throughout the day so everyone knows where the pieces of the project are at any given time.
Summary Of Responsibilities
Write articles and video scripts about impactful AI stories that can be used by the AAII to build courses, can be used by faculty to teach courses, and can be shared by students and staff to help get work done more effectively.
Partner with faculty and students to gather and produce story ideas.
Collaborate with team members, giving feedback and consistently lifting the quality of deliverables.
Incorporate feedback from team members, stakeholders, mentors, and the Senior Director.
Generate compelling, interesting, and valuable AI stories that teach “everyone can use AI” and “here’s how you can do this with AI.”
Analyze, document, and present findings and lessons learned, and take follow-up action.
Always ask: How can I better align with the strategy? How can I improve the results?
Other diverse tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Must be a current UVU Student.
Preferred: Portfolio of writing projects indicating professional-level expertise.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Others love to read or hear your stories; they are compelled by them.
You already use AI for a variety of daily tasks to generate a high volume of quality work.
You have an eagerness to learn new mindsets and skills, and you are often “self-taught.”
You’re a top achiever, driven to create successful outcomes in difficult circumstances.
Experience and/or education in storytelling and script writing.
Ability to manage projects, work independently, and tie up loose ends.
High emotional intelligence and the ability to observe others' energy, mood, interest, etc.
