We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.
From GDP and inflation to central bank policy and employment figures, Bloomberg’s economic coverage drives real-time decisions across global markets. Our reporting on major US data releases — including CPI, employment and Federal Reserve decisions — is seen instantly by investors, policymakers and business leaders around the world.
We’re seeking an Economic Data News Editor in Washington to play a central role in this coverage. At its core, this is a journalism role requiring sharp news judgment, precision and clarity under intense deadline pressure — and the ability to translate complex economic data into actionable insight for markets. The position also sits at the intersection of economics and technology, combining real-time editorial decision-making with data fluency and workflow innovation. You will work at the forefront of how AI and automation are reshaping real-time news — using new tools to enhance speed, accuracy and analytical depth while maintaining Bloomberg’s editorial standards.
Responsibilities
Lead real-time coverage of major US economic releases with speed, precision and strong editorial judgment
Write and publish clear, market-sensitive headlines and analysis within seconds of data crossing the wires
Manage economist surveys that shape expectations ahead of key reports
Build and refine automated workflows — including Python-based tools — to ingest, validate and analyze structured economic data in real time
Collaborate with reporters, data analysts, product managers and engineers to strengthen Bloomberg’s real-time data capabilities
Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve reporting workflows, extract insights from data and expand the depth of coverage
You’ll need to have
At least 3 years of experience in financial journalism, economics, markets or a closely related field, with demonstrated analytical or editorial responsibility
A solid understanding of US macroeconomic indicators and why they matter to financial markets
Advanced proficiency in Excel, including comfort working with large structured datasets under deadline
Practical Python experience, particularly in working with structured data or automating workflows
Clear, concise written English
We’d love to see
Experience covering US economic data in a real-time or market-focused environment
Familiarity with the Bloomberg Terminal and its data ecosystem
A track record of increasing responsibility and impact within an organization
