Job Summary The purpose of the Business Energy Advisor (BEA) is to develop relationships with small/medium and large business customers, introduce those customers to Duke Energy products and services, and close/win customer projects for energy efficiency, demand response, charger and outdoor lighting products and services. The Senior Business Energy Advisor will include developing relationships with business customers, including C‑level owners with $250‑$500k annual revenue, and nurturing long‑term relationships for cross‑sell opportunities as new products become available for the non‑residential markets. The position requires technical and financial knowledge as well as a thorough working knowledge of all of the company’s products and services: lighting, HVAC, foodservice, EV.
For regulated energy efficiency product and service sales, the BEA sales process includes identifying customer needs, explaining program benefits, assisting through the project process, and helping customers understand the application process. Tracking and reporting are vital to each step of the project’s success.
For non‑regulated energy efficiency product and service sales, the BEA sales process includes securing Customer Disclosure Authorization (CDA) for future discussion with all Duke Energy regulated customers.
For positions in Florida, this position is responsible for conducting on‑site energy audits and analysis for commercial, industrial and governmental accounts.

Works with commercial customers with an emphasis on qualifying prospective customers both in and out of the Duke service areas by collecting usage data, building and site information.

Senior Business Energy Advisor
Prospects/identifies small/medium business customer leads in and out of Duke service area by collecting usage data, building and site information.
Experience in selling, qualifying and closing sales of regulated and unregulated energy efficiency products and services with SMB customers.
Works with commercial customers with an emphasis on qualifying prospective customers both in and out of the Duke service areas by collecting usage data, building and site information.
Explains Efficiency as a Service and demonstrates the knowledge and ability to move the customer through the analysis, proposal and closing of the project.
Gathers facility data or works with vendors to develop key data points for accurately developing the project value during analysis.
Secures signed authorizations for service agreements moving forward. Works with program management to determine terms of the contract proposal.
Closes the project sale including securing proper Exhibit A signature and supporting follow‑through on the project installation and ensuring EE incentives are processed for eligible customers as part of the contract.

High school diploma AND three (3) years minimum of related work experience
Senior Business Energy Advisor
Bachelor's degree AND four (4) years minimum of related work experience
In lieu of bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED AND seven (7) years minimum of related work experience
Desired Qualifications Business Energy Advisor
General understanding of building envelope and equipment. Knowledge of what drives energy‑related costs and how energy efficiency drives costs down.
General utility knowledge including billing systems, distribution systems, utility rate structure.
Basic knowledge of energy efficiency technologies such as lighting, HVAC, food service, pumps/motors, drives and other products & services.
Basic understanding of commercial buildings and electrical loads helpful due to the technical nature of the products.
Capable customer interaction experience.
Ability to juggle deadlines, follow‑up, and varying types of calls to and from different industries, including schools, healthcare, biotechnology, municipalities, retail, warehousing, and others.
Ability to promote a collaborative atmosphere through actions within own department and with other departments to ensure mutual success and superior customer experience.
Working knowledge of Salesforce or similar CRM.
Maintain accurate sales records/documentation.
Knowledge of the utility industry.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software tools and demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
Sales and/or customer‑facing experience.
Comfort level with public speaking.
Solid phone skills.
Self‑starter.
Proven ability to organize and manage large volumes of information.

Senior Business Energy Advisor
Preferred certifications: Engineer In Training, Certified Energy Manager, Business Energy Professional.
Three (3) years' experience in engineering field and/or utility industry.
Understanding of commercial building envelope, electrical loads and equipment. Knowledge of what drives energy‑related costs and how energy efficiency drives costs down.
General utility knowledge including billing systems, distribution systems, utility rate structure.
Basic knowledge of energy efficiency technologies such as lighting, HVAC, food service, pumps/motors, drives as well as Duke Energy products & services including Smart Saver, Demand Response, Outdoor Lighting, Back‑up gen, Solar, EV, Direct Efficiency as a service.
Excellent listening skills.
Prior experience working for an energy utility or services company.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to achieve shared goals.
Use of and experience with customer relationship sales tracking software (Salesforce, C4C) and maintain accurate sales records/documentation.
Evidence of growing knowledge of the three key focus areas (facility, utility, & customer engagement).
Capable customer interaction experience.
Customer/sales experience with proven track record to achieve sales goals and negotiate and close customer sales projects.
Ability to highlight the more comprehensive and less risk financing approach of Efficiency as a Service and the additional services that can be provided.
Ability to juggle deadlines, follow‑up, and varying types of calls to and from different industries, including schools, healthcare, biotechnology, municipalities, retail, warehousing, and others.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact effectively.
Comfort level with public speaking.
Working Conditions
Position consists of mainly day travel.
Field mobility classification - work will be performed in various field locations after the onboarding period; field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
