Position Description Lane-Donovan Lab - Junior Specialist
Department of Neurology – University of California, San Francisco
Our research is focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms of aging that lead to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. We use in vitro tools, tissue culture, and mouse models to study changes in the lysosomal system with aging and disease, with the ultimate goal of developing ways to modify this system to treat disease.
The project will focus on using novel imaging and biochemical tools to study regional changes in the lysosomal system in mice and tissue culture. Applicants intending to progress to graduate or medical school are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Actively support specialized research activities, including maintenance of our mouse colony and genotyping.
Assist with the development and execution of biochemical and confocal imaging techniques.
Learn tissue culture techniques upon demonstrating proficiency.
Receive direct training from the PI, Dr. Lane-Donovan, on the project.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or at least four years of research experience.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
Background in molecular biology.
One year of laboratory experience in wet‑lab experiments.
Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with mice.
Experience with immunohistochemistry.
Experience working with brain tissue.
Knowledge of neuroanatomy.
