Producer, The Playbook Podcast (Audio/Video)
POLITICO, Arlington, VA, United States
Job Description
POLITICO is seeking a skilled audio producer to join our growing audio/video team. In this role you’ll oversee recording sessions, make creative decisions to shape episodes, ensure high quality and accuracy, and edit audio to completion. Our shows are often multiplatform products, with audio video, and social media elements, so experience with editing video from podcasts is a strong plus. You’ll be a key player in delivering a timely and compelling product each day, as well as evolving our shows over time to grow and reach new audiences. Given the nature of news shows, this role may require work outside of normal business hours. Please note your openness to different schedules in your application.
Who You Are
An experienced producer with a track record of working on audio shows. Experience on video podcasts is a strong plus.
A skilled editor of audio — able to produce tight and polished edits on a deadline.
A keen reader of news and politics with a deep interest in US policy and politics.
Experienced in multiplatform distribution, finding production efficiencies between video and audio and social media, and producing for different channels and audiences.
A team player, great at giving and taking notes and working across different teams of people.
What You’ll Do
Oversee the recording of an audio/video show — including technical aspects and helping coach talent and guide editorial direction.
Collaborate with host and editorial colleagues to identify high-impact guests and relevant conversation themes.
Edit an audio product, producing clean, final cuts of a podcast (and potentially video).
Partner with audience, editorial, social media teams on distribution and publishing.
Monitor episode performance metrics and utilize data to optimize future episodes.
What You’ll Need
3+ years’ experience in podcast and video production, with significant experience in news, politics, or policy.
Sharp editorial judgement and storytelling instincts grounded in journalistic standards.
Strong editing ability; producing clean, polished audio under tight deadlines. Excellent communication skills for coordinating with leadership and cross-functional partners.
Familiarity with audience analytics and platform metrics to guide future content.
