
Director of College Counseling

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the High School Principal, the Director of College Counseling is to effectively guide and lead students and families through the college application and selection process. This position is scheduled to work 217 days annually.
General Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Provide personalized, student-driven guidance for college research, applications, and scholarship opportunities.
Develop and implement a comprehensive, long term college counseling program for students and families.
Manage the daily operations of the college counseling office, including managing timelines and resources.
Ensure all counseling, programming, and interactions are consistent with the Christian mission of SCS.
Advise families and students on the SAT and ACT.
Lead the team that organizes the annual administration of the pre-ACT and PSAT.
As requested, provide academic planning support to students in 9th-12th grade.
Plan and execute the annual College Fair.
Maintain strong relationships with colleges and universities, including serving on advisory boards as appropriate.
Attend college and university update meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate.
Analyze college placement data to inform continuous program improvement.
Partner with teachers on college recommendation letters.
Maintain knowledge of all NCAA core class requirements for student-athletes.
Serve on the high school leadership team and the school counseling team.
Serve as the school's coordinator for dual enrollment.
Serve on the committee responsible for high school graduation.
Qualified Applicants
Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with an evangelical, protestant church of like faith and practice; and agree with the philosophies, Statement of Faith and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School.
Must be willing to enroll eligible children at Southside Christian School.
Must be able to articulate a deep understanding of a biblically informed philosophy of Christian education.
Must have experience working directly with students. Experience in a high school setting is required.
Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
Bachelor's degree is required. Master's is preferred.
School counseling certification is highly preferred.
College Access Counseling Certification is highly preferred, or the candidate must be willing to obtain it from an approved institution.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
