WHAT’S THE ROLE ABOUT? As an Inside Sales Specialist, you will be part of our Higher Education sales team, responsible for expanding the customer base and generating new sales opportunities. Your duties include account management, driving sales initiatives, overseeing related activities, and providing pre- and post-sales support to ensure customer satisfaction and long‑term retention.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
Consistently achieve sales goals by winning new business and increasing sales within existing accounts through upselling and cross‑selling.
Develop and maintain a strong understanding of VHL’s digital and print products, assigned territory, market trends, and customer needs.
Use consultative selling and active listening to align solutions to customer needs and drive business outcomes.
Create compelling value propositions and presentations for various customer audiences to secure and retain business.
Build and maintain impactful relationships with educators, current customers, and potential clients.
Strategically manage territory, develop account penetration strategies, and use “smart selling” techniques to identify and follow up on business opportunities.
Leverage webinars and virtual tools to deliver targeted sales and training presentations for print and digital programs.
Consistently update CRM and sales dashboards to track account activity and ensure customer issues are resolved.
Collaborate with internal teams, including Marketing, Tech Support, and Editorial, to recommend and maintain product lists and build custom bookstore sites for customers.
Assist in coordinating training, professional development, and sales presentations for private school clients.
YOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)
Bachelor’s degree minimum
3+ years of experience generating business opportunities in a consultative sales or business development role within educational publishing, ed‑tech (educational technology), language learning, or similar field
Demonstrated track record of consistently achieving and/or exceeding sales goal(s)
Well‑developed prospecting, consultative‑selling, negotiation, territory management and active listening skills
Exceptional communication skills with an ability to adapt approach to fit a variety of scenarios and audiences
Experience conducting virtual sales or product demonstrations or presentations for customers
Strong attention to detail with strong organizational, project management and time management skills
Experience using CRM tools to track sales activities and manage accounts
Willingness to travel 10‑25% for team meetings and key events throughout the year
IDEAL IF YOU HAVE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)
Experience using Salesforce
Experience with creative marketing strategies
Experience selling into K12 or Higher Education market
LOCATION Boston – Hybrid
Candidates must reside within the United States and a reasonable proximity to our Boston, MA office location in order to work a hybrid schedule of Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday in‑office, Monday/Friday remote. Relocation assistance is not available.
SALARY $50,000–$70,000 annual base salary range. This position is salaried and is eligible for incentives based on employee and organizational performance.
