Job Overview Title: Market Analyst Entry

Location: Sacramento, CA, USA

Contract Length: 3 to 6 months (On‑site three days per week at SMUD Headquarters, 6201 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95817).

Pay: $88,379.20 – $116,979.20 USD per year.

Responsibilities

Assist in developing long‑term customer, load and demand forecasts, program evaluations and load assessments.

Help design and develop databases to support load research and assessment.

Evaluate, procure, and coordinate analytical modeling tools to facilitate modeling and evaluation activities.

Support the administration of internal and external projects by identifying objectives, developing project plans, monitoring progress, reviewing work products, and maintaining project records.

Conduct technical analysis for other departments related to operations planning, power scheduling, contract negotiations, resource assessment, rate design, and financial planning.

Support financial and market assessments of new products and services.

Independently assess and provide recommendations on projects requiring significant capital commitments.

Review and oversee consultant contract work on special projects.

Assist in developing and delivering technical and verbal reports to staff, peers, management, and the general public.

Perform related duties as needed, including working outside typical business hours.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field, OR five (5+) years of relevant experience.

Required Experience:

At least one (1+) year of progressively responsible work experience conducting load research, load modeling, forecasting, modeling, and/or economic analysis.

Knowledge:

Methods for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling work activities; policies and standards for interacting with authorities; fundamentals and practices for budget administration and business strategic planning; techniques for report preparation and writing; public speaking techniques; cost control and project scheduling; performance management; project budget management; economic analysis of projects; various analytical approaches; cost‑benefit analysis; complex mathematics; finance and accounting.

Skills:

Interpret and apply SMUD policies; plan and organize work; compile and prepare technical, statistical, and analytical reports; develop and conduct oral presentations; clarify and evaluate policies and regulations; manage projects and schedules; assess complex issues; develop alternatives; gather data; generate viable alternatives; explain policies; monitor and manage projects; plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule projects; develop business cases; use computer programs for forecasts; communicate effectively; establish and maintain working relationships.

Desirable Education:

Master’s degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.

Desirable Qualifications:

Knowledge of SMUD policies and operations related to generating, transmission, and distribution resources.
