Siddons-Martin Emergency Group is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable
Indirect Tax Accountant
to manage all aspects of indirect tax compliance and reporting. This includes sales and use tax, property tax, fuel tax, excise tax, and other state and local levies. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations, maintaining accurate records, and enhancing reporting and system efficiencies. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, hands‑on experience with indirect tax across multiple jurisdictions, and the ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and file timely and accurate state and local
sales, use, fuel, excise , and
property
tax returns across multiple jurisdictions. Review and maintain sales tax exemption certificates for accuracy and compliance. Reconcile indirect tax accounts to the general ledger and investigate variances. Research and analyze tax legislation and complex issues affecting business operations. Respond to tax authority inquiries and support audits with thorough documentation and communication with auditors and internal teams. Monitor, interpret, and implement changes in tax rates, laws, and filing requirements. Support
excise tax
reporting and compliance, ensuring timely filings and accurate data. Improve and maintain tax compliance systems and tools (e.g., Avalara,
Vertex , Sovos). Partner with finance, legal, and sales to ensure tax compliance in contracts and transactions. Assist with ERP tax setup, process automation, and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. Qualifications
Strong knowledge of
sales and use, excise, fuel, and property tax
regulations and compliance practices. Familiarity with ERP platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics). Proficiency in Excel and data analysis; ability to work with large, complex datasets. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 3+ years of experience in indirect tax, preferably in a multi-state environment. Experience with tax automation and compliance systems;
Vertex experience is a plus . CPA or CMI (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation) is a plus. Position Summary
