$60,000 in additional incentives . Salary and Benefits The annual base salary for new BPAs ranges from GL-5/GL-7, providing a salary between $51,632 and $92,219 per year. BPAs have access to a variety of federal employment benefits, including health, dental, and insurance plans, a comprehensive leave program, and a Thrift Savings Plan, akin to a traditional ROTH 401(k). New Hire Incentives Newly appointed Border Protection Agents are eligible for up to

$20,000

in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 is awarded upon completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with an additional $10,000 available for selecting a prioritized duty location. Retention Incentive New agents may qualify for up to

$40,000

in further incentives throughout their first four years of service. Duty Locations Duty assignments will be determined based on operational needs at the time of offer and may include various high-need areas, which may require relocation. Duty location influences pay rates, with potential locality pay bonuses available for some regions. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for grade progression to GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12, allowing for promotions without the need to reapply after each grade for a minimum of 52 weeks. Responsibilities As a BPA, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the American people by securing borders, deterring illegal activities, and contributing to the country’s economic stability. Your duties will include: Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws. Preventing and apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers near borders. Monitoring surveillance and evidence related to illegal activities. Conducting various types of checks, including farm and traffic checks. Patrolling international borders using various government assets. Qualifications You qualify for the GL-5 grade level if you have: One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making capabilities and the ability to maintain composure under pressure; or A bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university; or A combination of general work experience and completed college education. To qualify for the GL-7 grade level, you need: One year of specialized work experience demonstrating skills in sound judgment and decision-making related to law enforcement matters.
