Performs case processing and administrative support functions in support of the Municipal Court’s judicial and administrative operations. This position carries responsibility for routine court functions and customer service and works under the direction of the Assistant Court Administrator.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides exceptional customer service to the public, defendants, attorneys, jurors, and other court users by delivering accurate information regarding court procedures, case status, and general court operations in person, in writing, and by phone.
Maintains accurate and complete court records, including citations, complaints, summonses, warrants, correspondence, and related reports.
Sorts, files, copies, and distributes court documents and correspondence to appropriate personnel.
Assists with preparing case files and documents for judicial review and court hearings.
Processes payments, refunds, and bond postings; accurately counts, verifies, and manages cash and credit card transactions; assists with daily deposit preparation.
Schedules hearings and assists with docket preparation and coordination under established procedures.
Assists with the preparation and distribution of juror summonses and provides support to jurors during trial proceedings.
Provides administrative support in the courtroom as directed, including relaying messages, providing instructions, and distributing documentation to defendants and attorneys.
Follows established court policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
Assists senior staff with operational tasks and participates in cross‑training to support overall court operations.
QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or the equivalent; and at least two (2) years clerical work experience requiring public contact; attention to detail is essential for consideration of this position, and previous court experience preferred; or, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
Certifications and Licenses Texas Municipal Court Clerk Certification, Level I or the ability to obtain this certification within two (2) years of hire.
Knowledge of
Standard administrative practices and procedures.
Use of standard office equipment including copier, calculator, multi‑line telephone, and computer. Standard word processing, spreadsheet, and software applications.
Money handling.
Legal terminology and municipal court procedure a plus.
Skills/Abilities
Demonstrate excellence in customer service proficiency in both oral and written communication.
Maintain and establish effective working relationships with your team, other city employees, outside agencies, court officials, and the general public.
Demonstrate ability to switch gears and remain flexible and responsive in handling varied responsibilities.
Think critically and identify complex issues that require quick and effective problem‑solving within the Court’s processes.
Be excited by continuous learning and adapting to the evolving legal terminology, principles, and court procedure.
Maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
