
Sr. Mechanical / Piping Designer

HGA is seeking a Senior Mechanical / Piping Designer for a direct-hire position based in our Ruston, LA office. This role requires extensive knowledge of engineering design principles, piping systems, and industrial facility layouts. The Senior Designer will develop detailed designs, ensure technical accuracy and constructability, and support multidisciplinary coordination with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret and analyze engineering design information to develop accurate piping layouts and detailed drawings.
Prepare 3D models and design packages for engineer review and approval.
Mentor and support junior designers and drafters.
Coordinate design activities with other disciplines to ensure alignment across the project.
Apply basic principles of pipe stress and coordinate with engineers performing formal analyses.
Review vendor drawings, equipment data, and shop drawings for accuracy and compliance.
Develop layouts using job scope, vendor information, and project requirements.
Assist in preparing estimates for new work based on scope and drawings.
May provide task supervision and technical guidance to other design personnel.
Ensure deliverables meet design standards, specifications, and constructability expectations.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 15 years of mechanical/piping design experience in wood products, gas compression, midstream, and/or petrochemical environments.
Proficient with AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx, or similar 3D modeling tools.
Strong understanding of industry codes, piping specifications, and common piping processes/equipment.
Experience serving as a lead designer on mid-sized and large industrial projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and clients.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with a consulting engineering firm.
Two-year technical degree, associate degree, or equivalent industry experience.
