Job Summary
The basic function of the Jr Estimator is to help prepare complete estimates for assigned projects.
Position Title Jr ESTIMATOR (Entry Level Position).
Reporting Relationships The Jr Estimator reports to and is directly accountable to the Chief Estimator.
Requirements Education Must have a Bachelors Degree in engineering or equivalent technical training.
Licensing / Registration / Certification None.
Experience Required: None specified. Preferred: None specified.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control.
Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
Physical Requirements The role is primarily seated; requires moving head, torso, bending arms, wrists, and fingers; the senses needed are vision, hearing, and full power of speech.
Mental Requirements
Work under stressful deadlines.
Communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Comprehend business math and interpret data from various sources; advanced computer skills desired.
Working Conditions Work will be in a climate-controlled office. Workdays will be 8 to 10 hours per day.
Essential Functions
Review and incorporate data from various sources to prepare estimate.
Review proposed specifications and drawings for estimate.
Maintain back-up figures for all estimates.
Track awarded contracts.
Duties and Responsibilities
Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures.
Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
Help prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
Maintain files to working documents as back-up for estimating figures.
Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits; procuring material, etc.
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Measures of Performance
Incorporates data from various sources to prepare estimate.
Reviews specifications and drawings thoroughly.
Maintains back-up files for all estimates.
Tracks awarded contracts.
