Social Media Lead

About the Role As a Social Media Lead, you will support external communications and digital engagement efforts for a nationwide public safety broadband program. This role is responsible for planning, producing, and managing daily organic social media content across multiple platforms, monitoring audience engagement, and supporting broader communications initiatives including podcast production, video publishing, and media relations support.

This position requires strong communications judgment, content development skills, and the ability to manage multiple recurring deliverables in a fast‑paced, stakeholder‑facing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop weekly and monthly content plans informed by research, program priorities, and stakeholder needs

Prepare, schedule, and publish social media content for multiple platforms using approved tools and workflows

Draft accessible alt-text and supporting post content to ensure compliance and usability

Monitor social media inboxes and engagement channels, escalating issues as appropriate

Conduct social listening and trend monitoring to recommend and implement new strategies or tactics

Collect, analyze, and report performance metrics to inform continuous improvement

Support production of the program’s podcast series, including staffing recordings and coordinating logistics

Edit podcast audio and develop supporting materials such as interview questions and transcripts

Assist with preparation and publishing of podcast-related communications products

Prepare video captions and supporting materials for multimedia content

Upload and distribute video content to YouTube and other social platforms

Support an annual volume of approximately 8–12 podcast episodes and ~70 video productions

Assemble and distribute daily news clip reports highlighting relevant media coverage

Maintain monthly metrics and reporting related to media engagement and coverage

Utilize media monitoring tools such as Meltwater or similar platforms

Provide surge support for website content management on an ad‑hoc basis, historically occurring 2–3 times per year

Update content using the government’s chosen CMS within a development environment and promote updates to production

Assist with quality assurance checks during content updates and surge periods

Location You will work as part of a primarily remote team, with occasional in‑person meetings at headquarters locations in Washington, DC; Reston, VA; Arlington, VA; or Boulder, CO.

Required Experience / Skills

Bachelor’s degree

8+ years of relevant professional experience in social media management, strategic communications, or public‑sector digital engagement

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Audition, InDesign) and familiarity with social media management and scheduling tools, and media monitoring tools such as Meltwater or similar

Demonstrated experience managing daily content production and scheduling across multiple social platforms

Strong knowledge of social media best practices, accessibility standards (alt‑text), and performance measurement

Experience with social listening, trend monitoring, and analytics reporting

Experience supporting podcast or multimedia content production workflows

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail

Ability to manage recurring deliverables in a deadline‑driven environment

US citizenship or permanent resident and the ability to pass public trust clearance or suitability

Preferred Experience / Skills

Experience supporting federal government or public safety‑related communications efforts

Familiarity with YouTube publishing, captioning standards, and video distribution practices

Experience supporting media relations activities and press outreach in a regulated environment

Experience updating content using enterprise or government CMS platforms
