DESCRIPTION About the Role
Sellwood Studio of Performing Arts, based in Madison, NJ, is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Marketing & Social Media Content Creator to help capture and share the story of our performing arts studio. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys social media, loves working with people, and wants hands‑on experience running marketing execution in a small, artistic environment.
We are a friendly, inclusive studio whose students range from young children who simply love to sing, dance, and act to performers who embark on professional careers. Our highly qualified teachers have extensive professional performing careers (from Broadway to the Metropolitan Opera), and our students win nationally recognized voice competitions and earn lead roles in school, youth, community, and professional productions.
This contractor will play a key role in marketing the studio, growing our audience, attracting new clients, and ensuring continued growth of the brand.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Capture
Attend classes, lessons, rehearsals, shows, and select events to take photos and short videos.
Capture moments that showcase students, rehearsals, community, and performances.
Social Media Management
Plan, create, and post content across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other relevant platforms.
Maintain and run a content calendar to ensure consistent posting.
Format and edit content for different platforms (reels, shorts, feed posts, stories).
Write captions, add hashtags, and schedule posts.
Monitor comments and messages, flag items that need responses.
Marketing Execution
Implement marketing strategies designed to attract new clients and grow followers and engagement.
Assist with the creation and posting of physical marketing materials for use around the studio.
Assist with Mailchimp campaigns (newsletters and announcements).
Support creation of graphics, videos, and written content for campaigns.
What We’re Looking For
1-2+ years of experience managing social media or digital content, building similar campaigns and drawing in a significant number of new followers.
Expertise with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.
Passion for social media, digital storytelling, and marketing.
Strong sense of creative voice, humor, and tone appropriate for performing arts audiences.
Excellent communication, organization, and reliability in posting.
Exceptional people skills with a positive team‑player attitude.
Independent, self‑motivated, with a sense of ownership over marketing execution.
High proficiency in content creation/editing tools such as Canva, CapCut, or similar.
Interest or background in theater, music, dance, or performing arts is preferred but not required.

Location Requirement
This is a hybrid/on‑site role in Madison, NJ. The contractor will regularly need to be in‑person at the studio to capture content during classes, rehearsals, and performances, and to assist with in‑studio marketing efforts.
Hours: ~10 hours/week Flexible schedule with some afternoon, evening and weekend availability required
