The City of Ocean City, New Jersey is seeking an energetic, creative, and outgoing individual(s) to serve as the Official City Mascot Performer. This role represents Ocean City at community events, tourism promotions, parades, and public appearances while helping promote the city's family-friendly brand through engaging in-person interactions and digital media content.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform as the City's mascot while wearing a full hooded mascot costume at municipal events, promotional appearances, and community programs. Entertain audiences of all ages through gestures, movement, and non-verbal interaction consistent with the mascot's character and image. Develop creative social media content, including short videos, skits, photo opportunities, and promotional appearances to support tourism and city marketing initiatives. Collaborate with city staff to plan themed appearances and promotional campaigns. Maintain, clean, and properly store the mascot costume after each use to ensure cleanliness, safety, and longevity. Conduct routine inspections of the costume and report any maintenance or repair needs. Assist with crowd engagement, photo opportunities, and public relations efforts during events. Represent Ocean City in a professional, positive, and family-friendly manner at all times. Requirements:
Comfortable performing in a full hooded mascot costume for extended periods of time, including outdoor conditions. Creative mindset with experience or interest in social media content creation (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.). Strong sense of enthusiasm, physical stamina, and ability to interact with large crowds. Ability to follow character guidelines and maintain mascot personality in public settings. Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Prior performance, theater, athletics, promotions, or mascot experience preferred but not required. Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, dance, and perform light physical activity while wearing a mascot costume. Ability to work in varying weather conditions and manage limited visibility while in costume. Tools and Equipment Used:
Personal Computer with keyboard using word processing, spreadsheet, and data base programs; Printer; Phone; FAX; Copier; Shredder Microsoft 365 Office Suite Knowledge of Photoshop and/or similar design programs a plus
