What We Offer:
Aquatics, Club Sports, and Marketing Graduate Assistant positions include a 9‑month contract that includes full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend of $1,200 totaling $10,800 per year.
All Graduate Assistants have the option to work up to 9 hours per week in addition to the monthly stipend. The hourly rate for these additional 9 hours will be $15 per hour for the first academic year, and $16 per hour for the second academic year, to be initiated upon renewal of the yearly contract. The $1 per hour increase is contingent upon meeting certain learning outcomes as agreed upon and discussed with your supervisor. These additional hours are dependent on program area specific needs.
Graduate Assistant contracts are up for renewal in August and are based on performance.

Graduate Assistant of Aquatics The Aquatics Graduate Assistant is a leadership position that will require the student to work collaboratively with both our full‑time staff and our undergraduate aquatics student staff to maintain the day‑to‑day aquatics and safety needs of the Department of Campus Recreation. This position is a 2‑year commitment as a full‑time graduate student. Night and weekend hours may be required as well as other job specific duties as assigned.
Aquatics Primary Responsibilities
Assist with scheduling, supervision, management, hiring, training, and evaluation of our undergraduate student staff.
Assist with daily aquatic operation management including hiring, training, and scheduling of approximately 35 Aquatic student staff.
Assist with development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
Maintain, document and utilize reports.
Utilize Fusion and Sling software to build schedules and program offerings.
Assisting with pool heating, filtration, and chemical feeding systems oversight.
Provide quality customer service to all facility patrons.
Duties may include opening and closing pools, and some weekend duties (as needed) managing customer‑related situations and responding to emergencies.
Active participation in departmental meetings as a representative of the Aquatics program.
Collaborate and assist with both departmental and external groups with special events when we are requested to host events at our pools using 25Live and Fusion to help schedule these events.
What We Require
Graduate Assistants are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and be accepted into MTSU graduate school and academic program of choice before assistantship begins.
Must possess current certification from American Red Cross for Lifeguarding (including deep water) or willing to obtain upon being hired.
What We Prefer
Current American Red Cross Certification for Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or knowledge/experience teaching and scheduling swim lessons.
Must possess current certification from American Red Cross for Lifeguard Instructor.

Club Sports Graduate Assistant The Club Sports Graduate Assistant is a leadership position that works collaboratively within an extensive Intramural Sports and Club Sports program housed under Campus Recreation. The Graduate Assistants provide administrative support to the Coordinator of Sports Programs and are considered part of the Campus Recreation professional staff and programming team. This position is a 2‑year commitment as a full‑time graduate student. Night and weekend hours may apply as well as other job specific duties as assigned.
Sports Programs Primary Responsibilities
Club Sports
Assist in managing inventory, budgeting, travel information, and reimbursements for Club Sports.
Organize and monitor weekly club sport practice and game schedules.
Serve on the Club Sports Advisory Board to allocate funds to club sports organizations.
Assist in organizing and executing Club Sport leadership development and officer trainings.
Additional Responsibilities
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and provide leadership to Sports Programs student staff.
Develop ideas and collaborate with Campus Recreation marketing staff to deliver a comprehensive marketing plan for Sports Programs.
Assist with Sports Programs student payroll, budget planning, policy development, and equipment/facility inventory and purchasing.
Attend regularly scheduled Campus Recreation staff meetings.
Be an engaged member of the Division of Student Affairs.
What We Require
Graduate Assistants are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Must be CPR/First Aid/AED certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire.

Graduate Assistant of Marketing The Graduate Assistant of Marketing is an integral part of Campus Recreation at MTSU that is tasked with the coordination and implementation of all departmental marketing. This position reports directly to the Director of Campus Recreation and works collaboratively with all areas of Campus Recreation including but not limited to: Sports Programs, Outdoor Pursuits, Fitness and Wellness, Aquatics, and Facility Services. The Graduate Assistant of Marketing is expected to be a creative, visionary, and adaptable leader who works collaboratively to promote MTSU Campus Recreation.
Primary Responsibilities
Create content for and maintain all social outlets for promotion and advertising.
Create digital collateral such as digital ads, social media graphics, short videos, and website content.
Design all digital print including promotional flyers, posters, and banners.
Continue to evaluate and evolve the MTSU Campus Recreation marketing plan.
Maintain the Campus Recreation website and keep up to date on website design and appearance.
Design and order staff attire, marketing, and event t-shirts.
Coordinate with Campus Recreation Administrative Staff to assess marketing needs for all areas within Campus Recreation.
Supervise Marketing Assistants and continuously update job duties to ensure that we are creatively serving the needs of the MTSU Community.
Assist with related research, survey development, assessments, and evaluation of departmental programs.
Keep current with computer technology and software.
Create and maintain connections with other university departments to present up‑to‑date information.
Evaluate usage of social media platforms through measurement and analysis of platform reach and engagement.
Serve on university committees.
Additional Responsibilities
Attend and contribute to bi‑monthly staff meetings.
Hold regular office hours.
Attend various Campus Recreation programs and events.
Attend professional conferences representing MTSU Campus Recreation.
Assist in all other areas of Campus Recreation.
What We Require
Must have experience working with different design platforms (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, etc.).
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, recreation, or closely related field.
Strong written communication skills.
A collaborative mindset while also focusing on personal growth and development.
Ability to supervise and lead others while working in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
What We Prefer
Experience working in sports or recreation marketing at the undergraduate level.
Experience in working in video production and photography.
Experience in social media oversight.
