The Role

Works in partnership with General Manager to prepare and maintain the annual golf course maintenance budget.

Directs the maintenance and construction projects of the golf course.

Supervises all turfgrass management, planting, and cultivation.

Assures equipment is maintained.

Works within budget restrictions to manage supplies and materials.

Keeps accurate records.

Works with vendors to manage costs and achieve budget goals.

Careful attention to administrative tasks.

Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations and organizational standards.

Manages training for all staff.

Assures required licenses are maintained.

Serves as the leader for Environmental Stewardship at the course.

Two-year college degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is preferred; with two to five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the field.

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

The person chosen for this position must be a motivated and energetic individual ready to lead, assist, and participate in the daily operations of the golf course and golf course maintenance staff.

The successful candidate will manage and supervise the grounds crew as well as manage all areas of the daily maintenance operations at Elmridge Golf Course. This includes, but is not limited to: tees, fairways, greens, course set-up, rough, bunkers, driving range, applications (fertilizer and spray), irrigation management, cart paths, flower beds, tree management, and other general repairs/projects throughout the property.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Schedules, manages, and participates in the daily planning and supervision of greens, tees, fairways, and clubhouse maintenance; work schedule; and employee management.

Schedules, manages, and participates in daily irrigation, irrigation repair, and irrigation reporting.

Performs and manages agronomic applications/inventory and practices proper reporting skills.

Supervises and assists in other tasks throughout the entire property including: capital improvements, drainage upgrades, and light building maintenance (plumbing, carpentry, painting).

Strongly motivated, energetic, self-starting individual is essential to achieve all goals to the best of our capabilities.

This is a hands‑on position.

Weekends, holidays, and flexibility a must. A common understanding of more hours being required under hot/dry conditions, aeration, and peak season.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong communication skills (oral and written) necessary to supervise daily tasks and to provide feedback to the Ownership, General Manager, and pro shop staff.

Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a close eye to detail is a must.

Must be a team player.

Irrigation troubleshooting and ability to fix is a plus.

Mechanical background and ability to fix/troubleshoot machinery is a plus.

Experience

A.S. or B.S in Turfgrass Management or related field is required.

At least two years’ experience in a golf course or sports field maintenance setting.

State of CT Commercial Pesticide Supervisor license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire is required.

Association dues and continuing certification credits will be paid for by employer.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop, implement and manage BMP’s for the golf course, property and club houses grounds.

Responsible for building annual agronomic budget. Develop a sound 12-month agronomic plan, labor plan, and operational budget.

Develop and maintain long-range equipment replacement and infrastructure improvement plan.

Implement and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Recruit, hire, train, and manage a strong property maintenance team. Ensure team is cross-trained in all facets of operation.

Develop and implement staff development programs.

Effectively communicate and work with other department heads on scheduled events, maintenance plans, and current conditions of golf course.

Ensure equipment is maintained in good working condition, proactive with preventative maintenance, and ensure maintenance logs are kept organized and up to date.

Ensure irrigation system is maintained in good working condition, leaks are repaired in a timely manner, and irrigation sprinklers are kept level.

Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, present strong administrative skills with submissions of invoices and inventory counts in timely manner, and present strong record keeping, organizational skills.

Attend turf conferences, equipment shows, workshops, and other educational programs to maintain a current knowledge of technical and turf innovations, and changes that could affect the department’s operations.

Develop, implement, and ensure all golf course construction projects completed on time and within budget.

Hold or acquire proper state pesticide applicators license within 60 days of employment.

Degree/Licenses\nBachelor’s degree (BS), Associates degree (AA) or equivalent form a four or two year college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination and experience. Degree preference in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil science.
