Position Overview The Frederick Arts Council seeks a part‑time Communications and Events Associate (20 hours per week). The Communications and Events Associate supports the mission of the Frederick Arts Council by coordinating marketing, communications, and public engagement for the organization’s programs and initiatives. This role promotes exhibitions, public art, community events, and artist opportunities while helping strengthen connections between the arts and the residents of Frederick and the surrounding region.

The Communications and Events Associate plays a key role in raising the visibility of the arts in Frederick County through storytelling, media outreach, and successful execution of community arts programs and events.

Key Responsibilities Communications and Marketing

Develop and implement communications strategies to promote the Council’s exhibitions, programs, artist opportunities, and public art initiatives.

Manage the organization’s website, social media channels, and email newsletters.

Write and distribute press releases, announcements, and promotional materials.

Create engaging content highlighting local artists, arts programs, and community impact.

Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communications platforms.

Track and report on communications metrics to evaluate outreach effectiveness.

Events and Public Programs

Coordinate public events including exhibitions, artist talks, festivals, workshops, and community celebrations.

Develop event timelines, logistics plans, and run‑of‑show schedules.

Coordinate with artists, vendors, volunteers, venues, and community partners.

Manage event marketing, registration systems, and audience outreach.

Oversee on‑site event production including setup, staffing, and troubleshooting.

Document events through photography, video, and post‑event communications.

Community Engagement

Support outreach efforts that broaden access to the arts and encourage participation across diverse communities.

Represent the Council at community events, meetings, and arts‑related gatherings.

Assist with initiatives that connect the arts to economic development, tourism, and community revitalization.

Administrative Support

Maintain communications calendars and event schedules.

Assist with coordination and documentation for grants, sponsorships, and program reporting.

Coordinate volunteers and interns assisting with events and outreach.

Maintain archives of images, promotional materials, and program documentation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, arts administration, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

2–5 years of experience in communications, marketing, event planning, or nonprofit arts administration.

Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills.

Experience managing social media, email marketing, and website content.

Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Ability to work collaboratively with artists, community partners, and volunteers.

Familiarity with marketing and design platforms such as Canva, Constant Contact, E‑vite, Eventbite, or Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.
