Description of Work The Communication Director develops and implements marketing and public relations initiatives that maintain and increase the local, regional, national, and international visibility of Sheldon Museum of Art’s exhibitions, programs, publications, acquisitions, and other mission-related activities. They oversee the museum’s visual brand identity, social media programs, and digital engagement strategies. This position supervises the Graphic Designer and Digital Engagement Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, arts administration, Business or related field plus Three years’ experience in marketing, journalism, or promotion
Experience writing, editing, designing, and producing brochures, newsletters, and other printed and digital materials
Strong leadership, decision making, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills; solid presentation, negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution, and meeting management skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop and monitor annual operating and multi-year project budgets
Computer skills including MS office, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in communications, Marketing, arts administration or Business
Experience working in an art museum, art center, or nonprofit cultural organization
Graphic design experience
Knowledge of current arts marketing best practices articulated by the American Alliance of Museums, the Association of Art Museum Directors, the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries, and other professional organizations.
Pre-Placement Driving Record Review Required: No
Physical Required: No
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Subject to DOT approved pre-employment & random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.
Criminal History Background Check Required: Yes
