Rockstar is recruiting for a San Francisco–based luxury residential interior design studio creating deeply layered homes that blend timeless architecture with contemporary refinement. San Francisco & Peninsula | Hybrid (Studio + WFH)

The studio is seeking a highly experienced Senior Interior Designer to join its growing team. This role is ideal for a designer who is equally passionate about architecture and interiors, and who thrives working on complex residential projects from concept through installation.

The Senior Designer will play a key role in shaping design direction while also overseeing the detailed technical execution required to bring projects to life.

Role Overview The Senior Interior Designer leads projects across all phases of design, from concept development through construction and final installation. This role requires a designer who combines strong creative instincts with technical expertise and experience producing detailed construction documentation and interior architecture packages.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable working closely with architects, contractors, artisans, and clients on sophisticated residential projects.

Key Responsibilities Design Leadership

Lead the creative development of residential design projects from concept through installation

Develop comprehensive design concepts including space planning, furniture layouts, materials, lighting, and custom design

Produce compelling design presentations including mood boards, visual narratives, and design documentation

Ensure all work reflects the studio’s design vision and high standards

Interior Architecture & Construction Documentation

Develop detailed interior architecture packages and construction documentation

Produce comprehensive AutoCAD construction drawing sets

Design and document custom millwork, kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, built-ins, and architectural details

Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals to ensure design integrity

Support construction administration and site coordination as needed

Architectural Collaboration

Work closely with project architects and consultants on ground-up new construction homes

Work closely with project architects and consultants on major residential renovations

Work closely with project architects and consultants on historic and heritage home restorations

Participate in coordination meetings with architects, contractors, and consultants

Ensure interior architecture integrates seamlessly with the broader architectural vision

Project Management

Guide projects through all design phases including concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, FF&E specification, procurement, installation & styling

Manage project timelines, deliverables, and internal coordination with the design team

Client Experience

Participate in client meetings and presentations alongside the Principal

Communicate design concepts clearly and guide clients through selections and decisions

Maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion with high-profile residential clients

FF&E Design

Specify furniture, lighting, textiles, materials, and finishes

Collaborate with artisans and fabricators on custom furniture and bespoke pieces

Work closely with the procurement team on pricing, ordering, and tracking

Team Collaboration

Mentor intermediate and junior designers

Review drawings and presentations for accuracy and quality

Foster a collaborative and design-driven studio culture

Qualifications

7–10+ years of interior design experience, ideally in luxury residential design

Experience working on ground-up homes, major renovations, and architecturally complex projects

Strong expertise in interior architecture and construction documentation

Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD

Experience producing detailed construction drawing sets and custom millwork documentation

Deep knowledge of high-end materials, furnishings, and design vendors

Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills

Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously

Studio & Work Environment The studio operates a hybrid model, with time split between working from home and the studio environment. Projects are primarily located throughout San Francisco and the Peninsula, and occasional site visits are required during construction and installation phases. The team is collaborative and design-driven, passionate about creating homes that feel timeless, soulful, and deeply personal.
