Brightness in Black (BiB), an initiative of StoryCorps, is a national narrative change program dedicated to amplifying Black stories rooted in asset framing, leading with joy, resilience, and lived experience.
In 2026, Brightness in Black is expanding regional content production across the Northeast, South, Midwest, and West Coast. We are building a bench of paid, freelance Content Creators to collaborate on short‑form and mid‑form video storytelling for digital platforms.
The Role: The Brightness in Black Content Creator is a project‑based, freelance role for experienced video storytellers who are already working independently and want to collaborate on mission‑driven work.
This is an independent contractor role. Creators manage their own workflow and production process within agreed deliverables and deadlines.
This role is designed for independent creators managing multiple clients, not as a primary or full‑time engagement. Creators are engaged per assignment, with clear scopes, timelines, and fixed rates per deliverable.
What You’ll Work On:
Short‑form documentary‑style video stories
Vertical social video
Occasional experimental short‑form work
Work is project‑based and self‑directed, with clearly defined deliverables, timelines, and points of contact.
Compensation: Paid per deliverable, based on a national rate card.
Rates vary by content type and scope.
