Position Overview The
Director of Engineering
is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel engineering, maintenance, safety, and facility operations. This leadership role ensures the property is maintained to the highest standards while supporting operational efficiency, guest satisfaction, and compliance with brand and regulatory requirements.
The Director of Engineering will lead the engineering team, manage preventative maintenance programs, oversee capital improvement projects, and ensure the physical plant operates efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Maintenance Operations
Oversee daily operations of the
engineering and maintenance department .
Ensure all hotel systems operate efficiently including
HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems .
Develop and implement
preventative maintenance programs
to protect hotel assets.
Facilities Management
Maintain the hotel building, grounds, and guest areas to
brand and company standards .
Coordinate repairs and maintenance for
guest rooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, and back-of-house areas .
Monitor facility conditions and recommend improvements.
Capital Projects & Renovations
Manage
capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, renovations, and property improvements .
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and ownership groups.
Ensure projects are completed
on time and within budget .
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with
local, state, and federal regulations
including OSHA and fire safety standards.
Maintain proper documentation for
inspections, safety programs, and maintenance records .
Lead emergency response planning and safety training.
Team Leadership
Hire, train, and supervise engineering and maintenance staff.
Establish performance expectations and provide coaching and development.
Maintain a culture of
safety, accountability, and teamwork .
Budget & Cost Control
Develop and manage the
engineering department budget .
Monitor energy usage and implement
energy efficiency programs .
Control maintenance costs while maintaining high operational standards.
Qualifications
5–8+ years of engineering or facilities management experience , preferably in hospitality.
Previous experience as
Chief Engineer, Assistant Director of Engineering, or Engineering Manager .
Strong knowledge of
HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and mechanical operations .
Experience managing
preventative maintenance programs and CapEx projects .
Familiarity with
hotel brand standards (Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, IHG preferred) .
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
