The Managing Director (MD) for Retail Web Technology is accountable for all technical aspects of the Retail Web platform (schwab.com), the flagship retail web platform manages billions in new monthly retail assets under management and serves millions of active clients. In this pivotal leadership position, the MD leads a substantial engineering team, ensuring the seamless delivery and maintenance of essential platform features— such as supporting a high volume of daily logins, processing significant amount of trading activities, and mission‑critical money movement transactions. By championing innovation and operational excellence, the individual in this role plays a vital role in preserving the platform’s stability and scalability. This leadership empowers Schwab to respond nimbly to the rapidly evolving demands of the financial industry, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of digital transformation and client experience.

Key outcomes

Define the firm's Retail technology strategy, roadmap, and deliverables setting the technological direction and ensuring alignment with Schwab's business goals

Shape and refine the organizational objectives for Schwab.com ensuring high system availability, optimizing performance, maintaining security, and adhering to compliance standards.

Lead cross‑functional teams to deliver integrated, client‑centric solutions enhancing service quality, strengthen operational efficiency, and support firm‑wide strategic objectives.

Manage enterprise delivery enablement, technology strategy development, governance and oversight of critical platforms, investment and capacity management, and partnership with business leaders to align technology capabilities with organizational needs.

Influence across the enterprise to drive cross functional decisions, building alignment with senior, challenge peer executives constructively, and foster collaboration across technology and business organizations while guiding teams through ambiguity and change.

Drive large‑scale transformation efforts such as cloud enablement and GenAI adoption, playing a critical part in maintaining Schwab's competitiveness and compliance in the Retail Brokerage industry.

Ensure seamless client experiences, consistent design, and cohesive technology frameworks across various digital channels. Present technology innovations to the Business and Tech Leadership on wide array of topic including platform modernization, system resilience and product and platform modernization.

Deliver key business offerings available on the Retail Website such as Client Summary, Trade, Move Money, Research, Self‑Service, Workplace, and more.

Provide frequent updates on technology strategy, initiatives roadmap and production support to senior executives in Technology and the business. Develop and nurture a large team of talented individuals and leaders, ensuring a robust talent force supporting this flagship platform, maintaining Schwab's leading position in the brokerage industry.

What you have Required Skills and Key Experiences

15+ years leading a complex operational and technology for a high profile, mission‑critical platform in a financial services environment of similar scale and complexity.

5+ years leading large engineer organizations encompassing delivery, transformational projects and modernization efforts.

A proven track record in delivering AI solutions and driving adoption for a key technology enterprise within a diversified financial services firm of similar size.

Along with a strong technical aptitude, leaders have strong business acumen. Able to understand business, strategy and operations to translate into technical needs.

An outstanding communicator who develops thoughtfully written action plans and clear, periodic communications to executive management.

Courageous, developing followership and building high performing, diverse, cross functional work teams of both direct and indirect team members rallied around the strategy.

Ability to partner with senior leaders of business and product organizations to help realize their business and client experience aspirations; including contributing to the development of those aspirations and ideas.

Experience managing a significant budget and hiring plan with material enterprise‑wide business impact.

Relationship‑oriented and emotionally mature executive who manages complex, multi‑stakeholder issues with resilience while embracing others’ perspectives.

Exceptionally client focused; able to build relationships and establish trust, respect, and confidence effectively and quickly.

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is required.
