Job Summary Reporting to the Sr. Director, Content, the copywriter is responsible for creating copy as part of the Brand & MarCom Operations team. Projects may include, but are not limited to, websites, landing pages, emails, product descriptions, infographics, video scripts, ads, and other written material, which will be used on external media including AIA websites, communications, social media, presentations, and in other areas. The copywriter will use their skills to deliver AIA’s brand message and value proposition to both external and internal customers in a meaningful and understandable way.
This role will also work across AIA teams to define, develop, and execute messaging strategies, concepts, and content for brand and product marketing campaigns. The manager will be the point of contact for internal and external teams in the execution of marketing content for delivery across multiple channels.
Responsibilities
Write brand-appropriate marketing copy for websites, emails, newsletters, sales collateral, video scripts, and other written media
Write persuasive copy that drives conversions for a portfolio of products and services for multiple audiences
Develop content ideas in collaboration with other copywriters, graphic designers, creative directors, social media managers, multimedia designers, and / or other members of the MarCom team
Collaborate with content owners, writers, graphic designers, and creative directors to create materials as part of a cohesive campaign
Incorporate top-performing messages across campaign deliverables and connect these messages to other campaigns, products, and collateral
Apply knowledge of UX, SEO, CRO to guide customers through compelling user journeys
Review and / or edit other writers’ copy or content and provide feedback and line edits, as needed
Independently make copyediting decisions per AIA and AP style
Contribute updates to the AIA style guide and editorial calendar
Actively develop copywriting skills over time to grow and improve as a copywriter
Serve as a primary editor and publisher for AIA.org and conferenceonarchitecture.com websites, collaborating with stakeholders daily or weekly to ensure timely and accurate updates
Review, edit, and publish internal web update requests submitted through the organization-wide creative services and web updates intake form
Review, edit, and approve emails for all 28 AIA Knowledge Communities and member groups, as well as key member-facing initiatives (including the 2030 Commitment, Materials Pledge, AIA Trust, and College of Fellows), ensuring brand alignment and editorial accuracy across high-frequency deployments
Collaborate with external content partners (e.g., Deltek/MasterSpec) to review, edit, and publish sponsored articles quarterly
Provide copyediting and editorial review for member- and public-facing marketing and brand communications
Contribute to content strategy and messaging development for major campaigns related to AIAU, CES, conference, membership, awards, professional practice, events, and beyond
Advise staff across the organization on proper application of AIA’s brand tone, style, and editorial standards, ensuring consistency across channels and departments
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Portfolio demonstrating experience developing marketing copy for campaigns, digital platforms, and print materials.
Excellent writing and editing skills in English
Basic understanding of creative messaging principles and best practices
Basic understanding of SEO best practices
Ability to read and follow creative briefs
Ability to take feedback and make necessary changes
Strong communication and collaboration skills
College degree Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing strongly preferred with a minimum of 4 years related experience.
