Position Marine Electrician II

Location San Diego, CA

Job Overview We are seeking a Marine Electrician II to join our Fleet Services Group in San Diego, CA, supporting a variety of ship repair, modernization, and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. This position involves working aboard U.S. Navy and commercial vessels to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex electrical systems in a dynamic maritime environment. The ideal candidate will have solid experience with shipboard electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, communications, control systems, and electronic equipment. Prior experience working on military or commercial vessels, especially in support of the U.S. Navy, is highly desirable.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment, to include but not limited to HM&E Systems and Combat Systems Ship Alts, Mach Alts, SCDs, Temp Alts.

Set up, check, and correct operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre‑established guidelines and engineering specifications.

Perform installation of equipment, including drilling of mounting holes and penetration requirements.

Perform all cableway management aspects, including but not limited to cableway inspections, banding, opening and closing cable penetrations, perform OQE requirements of inspections, terminations, and penetrations.

Perform component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose the problem and provide most cost‑effective recommendation for completing repairs.

Perform on‑site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.

Inspect and test electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections and testing devices.

Assemble, fabricate, and perform testing requirements utilizing multi‑pin connectors and fiber optic connections, to include but not limited to, any repair and replace cables and connectors.

Participate in the installation and maintenance of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.

Utilize standard concepts, practices, and procedures in industry and NAVSEA standard items.

Perform additional duties outside of standard responsibilities as needed to support production and project completion.

Requirements

Must possess a REAL ID or U.S. Passport.

Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.

Must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.

Ability to foresee problems, write reports and give suggestions for solving those issues.

Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET clearance and must be able to obtain DBIDS and be able to access local shipyards and U.S. Navy bases.

Must possess basic hand tools.

Must be willing and able to travel up to 75%, including both domestic and international locations outside the continental United States.

Must understand, read, and communicate in English as required for job instructions, safety information, and team communication.

Must be able to pass an Audiogram, Respirator Fit Test, and physical.

Preferred Qualifications

Must be Cableway Certified*

Certified in "Multi‑pin" Connectors IAW MIL‑STD‑20035A (SA)*

Certified in Fiber Optic: CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC*

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fiber optics and integrated network system experience are preferred*

Target 5 to 7 years of experience as a Marine Electrician.

Physical Requirements

Exposure to open‑air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.

Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.

Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.

Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.

Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.

Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.

May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.

Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.

May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.

Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.

Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold.

Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on the task requirements.

Must be physically able to ride ships at sea for extended periods, including withstanding ship motion and working in various sea conditions.
