Misty Meadows: 2100 Baker Road, Fremont, OH 43420 (June 8 - June 26 & July 6 - Aug 14)
Camp Glen: 6580 S Township Rd 131, Tiffin, OH 44883 (June 28 - July 3)
Position Overview: Camp Fire Sandusky County is seeking motivated
Counselor/Activity Leads
to join our summer camp team. This position combines traditional day camp counselor responsibilities with short-term Activity Lead rotations throughout the summer. Our goal is to provide a safe, engaging, and fun camp experience while maintaining a collaborative and well-rounded staff team.
The Counselor/Activity Lead will:
Primarily serve as a counselor interacting with campers across all age groups
Take on
2–3 non-consecutive Activity Lead weeks
(one morning shift, one afternoon shift, plus optional additional weeks)
Assist in planning and leading activities in assigned program areas
Support daily operations while ensuring safety, engagement, and fun
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Camp Counselor Responsibilities
Supervise and actively engage with campers throughout the day to ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive camp environment.
Lead groups of campers through daily camp activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor recreation.
Build positive relationships with campers while modeling respect, responsibility, and the core values of Camp Fire.
Support campers in social development, teamwork, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
Maintain awareness of camper safety and behavior at all times while following all camp policies and procedures.
Assist campers with daily routines including transitions between activities, snack/lunch times, and end-of-day pick-up procedures.
Program and Activity Responsibilities
Organize, sanitize, and maintain classroom or activity space and equipment.
Lead developmentally appropriate activities and assist in implementing planned curriculum.
Assist in coordinating and delivering program activities, including Arts & Crafts, Archery, outdoor exploration, and other camp programs.
Step into scheduled Activity Lead weeks to plan and facilitate specific program areas for campers.
Maintain a safe, secure, and engaging environment during all activities.
Team and Administrative Responsibilities
Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
Assist with record-keeping, program materials, and enforcing safety procedures.
Participate in pre-camp training, staff meetings, and in-season planning.
Work collaboratively with the camp team to support daily operations and create a positive camp culture.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; current high school students may be enrolled in College Credit Plus or similar programs
Understanding of child development and behavior, and the ability to work with children of all ages
Warm, friendly personality with strong interpersonal skills
Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Prevention of Infectious Diseases training
Pass state and federal criminal background checks (BCII & FBI)
Organizational skills, punctuality, and professionalism
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and be active outdoors for up to 8 hours per day
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, and walking for long periods in indoor and outdoor environments
Lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping
Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Free Summer Camp Programs for youth in your household (K–6) under your guardianship
Personal Time, contingent on work hours
Schedule:
Counselor: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday
Activity Lead rotations: Morning Shift 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Before Care included), Afternoon Shift 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Aftercare included)
