Shape the future of Akamai's Connected Cloud
As a Chief Architect, you will define and lead the technical architecture for Akamai's cloud platform and services. This role will partner across engineering, product, and leadership to shape the technical direction of our IaaS products spanning virtualization, Kubernetes, cloud storage, networking, and large-scale distributed systems.
As a Chief Architect, You Will Be Responsible For
- Defining the platform‑level architecture standards, patterns, and principles for Akamai Cloud services.
- Evaluating and guiding decisions across virtualization, containers, storage, networking, and orchestration. Build alignment and consensus across engineering organizations.
- Helping engineering teams adopt pragmatic, high‑impact solutions and unblock complex technical challenges.
- Contributing to build / partner / buy decisions with product and corporate development stakeholders.
- Representing Akamai Cloud in the broader engineering community through speaking, writing, standards participation, or open‑source engagement.
- Mentoring senior engineers and architects, helping develop the next generation of technical leaders.
Do What You Love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 15 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
- Have technical understanding across several of the following: Linux, Virtualization, Kubernetes, Cloud networking and service connectivity and Cloud storage systems.
- Possess experience architecting and operating highly available, fault‑tolerant, globally distributed systems.
- Be able to think holistically about systems performance, reliability, security, operability, and cost.
- Possess good communication skills from writing clear design proposals to engaging executive leadership.
- Demonstrate industry impact through open‑source contributions, technical publications, standards work, or conference speaking at communities such as CNCF.

Compensation
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $217,900 - $392,100/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
