
Director of Electrical & Embedded Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Director of Electrical & Embedded Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical and embedded engineers developing advanced ProAV and embedded systems for the Medical, Defense, and Enterprise markets .
This role combines technical leadership, project execution, and team development . The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys guiding system architecture, solving complex technical challenges, mentoring engineers, and delivering high-performance products from concept through production.
You will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of products while ensuring designs meet performance, quality, regulatory, and schedule objectives .
This is an on-site leadership role within Product Development and Engineering (not remote or hybrid). We offer a fast-paced, high-impact engineering environment with opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.
Electrical Design & Development
- Lead the development of embedded hardware architectures , balancing performance requirements with production cost targets through trade studies and system analysis.
- Guide schematic capture, PCB layout reviews, and design practices to ensure signal integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, and thermal performance.
- Architect and integrate systems using microcontrollers, FPGAs, and SoCs with interfaces such as I²C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, CAN, RS-232/422/485, and PCIe .
- Support firmware and FPGA development (Verilog/VHDL) for embedded control, communications, and real-time video transport .
- Oversee design of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for video processing, control systems, and power management.
- Define and execute design verification and validation activities , including board bring-up, stress testing, and environmental qualification.
- Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies, simulation tools, and documentation standards .
Technical Excellence & Collaboration
- Conduct and participate in peer reviews of hardware designs, schematics, and embedded code .
- Troubleshoot complex system challenges across analog, digital, and high-speed domains , using structured root cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain hardware engineering processes that improve design quality and reduce development cycle time.
- Maintain proper engineering documentation, configuration management, and version control .
- Interface with customers, vendors, and internal teams to define requirements and ensure successful product delivery.
Leadership & Project Management
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of electrical and embedded engineers , fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering culture.
- Manage engineering activities including project scheduling, resource planning, and milestone tracking .
- Oversee the full lifecycle of electrical design projectsâfrom concept through production âensuring high technical standards and timely execution.
- Provide regular status updates and technical guidance to senior engineering leadership.
- Lead formal design reviews including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR) .
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards including IEC 60601, ISO 13485, and MIL-STD where applicable.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, software, production, and QA teams to deliver integrated product solutions.
- Champion a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement .
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 10+ years of experience designing and troubleshooting embedded electronic systems in high-reliability industries such as Medical, Defense, Aerospace, or Industrial
- 3+ years of leadership or management experience
- Proven hands-on experience with schematic capture, circuit simulation, and mixed-signal PCB design
- Experience with design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or similar
- Proficiency in FPGA development (VHDL/Verilog) and embedded firmware development in C
- Demonstrated experience developing embedded hardware from concept through production
- Experience leading root cause analysis and failure investigations , including 8D reports or similar corrective action processes
Preferred
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with video and networking interfaces such as HDMI, DisplayPort, SDI, DVI, and Ethernet
- Familiarity with medical device (IEC 60601, ISO 13485) or military (MIL-STD) design and compliance standards
- Experience with high-speed digital design, power regulation, and EMI/EMC compliance
- Experience working with FPGAs and ARM-based SoCs
- Knowledge of Ethernet networking architectures, PHYs, and switches
