Description & Requirements
Come join Maximus as the Director of Special Projects, playing a critical leadership role in supporting the Chief of Staff and the executive team in delivering the enterprise strategy. The Director of Special Projects acts as a trusted advisor, problem solver, and liaison, helping to achieve the organization’s vision and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring organizational strategies and priorities; oversee cross‑functional initiatives, ensuring alignment with the executive team’s objectives.
- Lead or participate in special initiatives as assigned by the Chief of Staff.
- Drive decisive execution of enterprise‑level priorities by cutting through ambiguity, removing barriers, and ensuring strategic initiatives move forward with urgency, clarity, and measurable impact.
- Serve as a liaison between the executive office and internal/external stakeholders; facilitate clear communication and build positive relationships across the organization.
- Manage day‑to‑day operations in collaboration with the Chief of Staff; support the Chief of Staff in decision‑making, agenda setting, and materials preparation for executive and Board of Directors’ meetings.
- Apply strong business acumen in a high‑paced corporate environment, demonstrating expert‑level analytical skills and experience with leading, executing, and synthesizing complex research, analysis, and project initiatives.
- Work independently and make independent judgment on assigned duties, while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Travel to the corporate headquarters in Tysons, VA every other week; some after‑hours work may be required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting corporate strategy and delivering enterprise initiatives.
- Experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, and/or operations management.
- Public sector consulting experience preferred.
- Analytical and conceptual problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; experience presenting to executive‑level audiences.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Excellent judgment, problem‑solving skills, emotional intelligence, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience in understanding government services or government consulting services.
Travel to the corporate headquarters to Tysons, VA may be required every other week.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including job location, education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel, external market and internal value analysis, seniority, and merit systems. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus’s total compensation package. Other rewards may include short‑ and long‑term incentives, program‑specific awards, health insurance, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
