Overview
Sr. Director, R&T – Rochester, New Hampshire, United States. Schedule: 9/80 schedule with an extra day off every other week.
As the Senior Director for Albany Engineered Composites Research and Technology (R&T), you will be accountable to the division VP for P&L responsibility and will drive the company's strategic vision and operational excellence. This role requires a seasoned leader with deep aerospace and defense industry understanding, strong financial acumen, and a track record of managing practical applied research within a large-scale operation. Research and Technology is a subset of Emerging Markets and Technology (EM&T) and is responsible for growing the composites business using differentiating technology areas, maturing them through TRL 6, and transferring applications to production facilities.
Job Responsibilities include the following leadership and management areas to support business objectives: Strategic Leadership, Operational Management, Financial Oversight, Business Development, Team Leadership and Development, Compliance and Risk Management, Stakeholder Engagement, and Supervisory responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the company\'s business strategy to drive growth, profitability, and competitive positioning. Lead long-term strategic goals and annual business plans. Collaborate with Application Development, VP EM&T, and other stakeholders to align objectives with the company vision. Champion differentiating technology to ensure strong IP positioning in growth areas.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with strategic goals. Implement and monitor processes to improve productivity, quality, and safety. Manage capital spend and oversee applied research projects through a team of Program Managers, Technical Leads, and Process Team Leads.
- Financial Oversight: Responsible to VP, EM&T for full P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance. Develop and manage the annual operating budget. Analyze financial reports, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
- Business Development: Partner with Application Development on new opportunities, partnerships, and markets. Drive growth through innovative solutions, product development, and customer relationship management. Partner with Customers, Marketing, and Contracts groups to negotiate and manage contracts with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Team Leadership and Development: Build and mentor a high-performing management team. Foster an inclusive culture that promotes engagement, development, and retention. Implement training and development programs to enhance capabilities.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies. Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies. Oversee quality assurance and control to maintain safety and reliability.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with clients, partners, regulatory bodies, and industry groups. Represent the company at industry events and communicate performance, strategy, and initiatives to stakeholders.
- Supervisory Responsibility: Supervisors are responsible for their work group, including performance management, recruitment, and development.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in aerospace engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; an MBA or advanced degree is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in the composites aerospace and defense sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing P&L responsibilities.
- Proven track record of leading technically focused operations, driving financial performance, and achieving business objectives.
- Strong financial acumen with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis experience.
- Exceptional leadership skills and ability to manage cross-functional teams.
- Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholder management experience.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements in aerospace and defense.
- Knowledge of ISO AS9100, NADCAP, OSHA, EPA and related aerospace regulations.
- Willingness and ability to obtain Collateral Secret Clearance to support projects as required.
Working Conditions
Indoor production environment with duties performed indoors, adequate lighting, and comfortable temperatures. Occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with moving parts. Ability to work 24/7 as business needs require. Travel may be required.
Physical Requirements
Occasionally position self to move items >10 lbs. Frequently move about the production floor and office areas. Must be able to remain stationary for up to 75% of the time. Regularly operate a computer and enter data into systems.
