Overview
WJZ-TV in Baltimore, MD is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Newscast Director to join our dynamic team as Coordinating Newscast Director. The ideal candidate will be responsible for directing dynamic newscasts, driven by breaking news, as well as streaming shows, specialty programs, and sports specials. You\'ll lead innovation and development of our Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality set. Responsibilities
- Direct live, fast-paced newscasts as well as webcasts and other programs using the Sony ELC automated production system, ensuring seamless execution and high production quality.
- Direct in an Augmented Virtual Reality (AR/VR) dynamic set for News, Sports and Weather while working with managers to develop and reinforce control room SOPs.
- Perform other studio support duties as needed, including setup and coordination of live and recorded broadcasts.
- Work closely with producers and the news department to develop high-quality, technically sound newscasts and programs.
- Apply technical expertise and creative flair to create visually engaging productions within accepted guidelines and standards.
- Direct and/or provide production support for special sports and entertainment programs, including both studio and remote productions.
- Troubleshoot and address technical issues during live broadcasts to ensure uninterrupted delivery of content.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience coding and directing 'live' newscasts and other productions in a small to medium market.
Additional Qualifications
- College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Familiarity with and experience using Sony ELC for automated production.
- Hands-on experience with Chyron ISQ and ChyronHego LUCI, with the ability to integrate and manage on-screen graphics during live broadcasts.
- Ability to multitask successfully in a live news broadcast environment.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of control room and studio equipment, including switchers, audio boards, and video servers.
- Experience with newsroom computer systems; iNews experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to collaborate in a dynamic, high-stress environment.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work any shift in a 24/7/365 working environment, including weekends, overnights, and holidays.
- Excellent computer skills on common platforms, with a solid focus on troubleshooting and problem-solving.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $70,000.00 - 80,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
