At Houston Methodist, the Director Telecommunications and Data Networks position is responsible for the IT Division's data, voice telecommunications, security operations and cloud computing environments, software, data network and wiring infrastructure. The role encompasses installation, maintenance, operation, administration and backup as well as disaster recovery for telephones, data networks, telephone equipment, cloud computing infrastructures (AWS, Azure, Google, etc.), paging and related equipment. The Director translates IT leadership strategies into comprehensive technical execution plans for acquiring and maintaining data, voice, wireless, cloud computing networking equipment while anticipating evolving architecture needs and hardware solutions. The position oversees design and equipment placement for new and expanding facilities, ensuring all critical technology needs are considered.

The Director position responsibilities include overseeing the activities of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency to accomplish strategic and operational objectives. The role is also accountable for employee engagement, adequate staffing levels, budget development and compliance, staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment, coaching and counseling employees on work‑related performance, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment. The Director ensures training, monitoring and operations initiatives are implemented to secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience

  • 10 years IM experience, five years people management, five years telecommunications or information technology focusing on voice connectivity and data networking, and three years managing cloud computing or private hybrid cloud infrastructure and networking.
  • Experience overseeing and managing cloud infrastructure services implementations, including design and implementation of availability, scalability and performance plans for cloud platforms.
  • For internal candidates, three years people‑management experience with Houston Methodist performance that demonstrates leadership responsibility in addition to the aforementioned experience requirements.

Licenses and Certifications

  • PMP – Certified Project Management Professional (PMI)
  • Technical certifications (list expected)
