Position Summary:
The Audio Communications Specialist I plays a crucial role in delivering seamless communication support for live event productions. This position involves collaboration with remote production facilities and mobile units in a vibrant and fast-paced production environment.
The specialist will configure, troubleshoot, and ensure quality control of intercom communications within ESPN facilities, while effectively linking to other locations during live productions. A solid understanding of remote connectivity, mobile unit configuration, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential for success in this role.
This position demands excellent multitasking abilities and collaboration across teams, including Production, Directing, Remote Operations, and ESPN Technology teams, to maintain a robust technical infrastructure tailored to a variety of productions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive Audio/Comms support to various production roles, maintaining professionalism and strong communication during troubleshooting and support.
- Develop troubleshooting skills to efficiently diagnose and address technical communication issues, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders throughout.
- Engage in training programs to enhance career growth and keep up with relevant equipment and operational changes.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of Audio/Comms resources, technical insights, and audio/comms tie line allocation.
- Collaborate across the enterprise to build and maintain production-related audio configurations and support plans tailored to each live production.
- Contribute to administrative tasks on various platforms such as O365, Smartsheet, and SAP.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in TV Production, preferably at small to medium broadcast markets or digital/streaming platforms.
- Basic understanding of TV production equipment and technology relevant to this role.
- Experience in on-air live TD roles utilizing industry-standard equipment.
- Able to work efficiently under tight deadlines while managing multiple projects independently.
- Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Open to adapting in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication, customer service, organizational, and computer skills.
- Ability to contribute effectively as part of a dynamic team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of Remote Integrated workflows and terminology.
- Experience with Remote productions and mobile units.
- Knowledge of intercom system components like RTS/Telex, Riedel, and/or Unity.
- Familiarity with various audio signal types: Analog, AES, Embedded, MADI, Dante, AES67/Ravenna.
- Understanding of Talent Commentator Box setup, connectivity, signal flow, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in building intercom files based on production needs and specifications.
- Regional level communications support experience with extensive communications infrastructure.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
Required Education:
High School, Vocational Diploma or Equivalent.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Studio/Television Production, or related field.
