The Opportunity
As the leader of photography capture during our live sports productions, you will leverage your knowledge of sports and live event production to fulfill creative needs. We seek action-oriented, hands-on candidates who are eager to contribute wherever possible. You will cultivate strong relationships with reputable sports, entertainment, editorial, and event photographers throughout the U.S. and Canada. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management skills, thriving in fast-paced environments while managing multiple projects effectively. With a high degree of organization and creativity, you will communicate clearly and collaborate seamlessly with diverse teams. This role will engage with various teams across Netflix, including publicity, marketing, product, and social media, as well as show production, talent representatives, and external photographers and producers throughout the campaign lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an engaging photography strategy for sports programming and live events to generate compelling visual assets that enhance the overall marketing campaign throughout each project's lifecycle.
- Hire, schedule, and oversee photographers who specialize in sports and live event coverage; ensure clear communication with production teams for seamless capture of athletic events, behind-the-scenes moments, and key talent interactions.
- Curate and deliver a captivating final set of photography to support the title campaign.
- Foster open communication with key campaign publicists, marketing and social teams, production teams, and talent representatives.
- Produce editorial photography featuring Netflix talent for specific campaigns.
- Assist in asset management and servicing of photographic materials.
- Oversee gallery and marketing still photo shoots.
- Manage retouching and color correction processes for photography.
- Coordinate talent approvals for photography as necessary.
- Oversee photography requirements for premieres and events.
- Manage budgets, open internal purchase orders, and negotiate rates with third-party vendors.
Career Experience
- 8+ years of experience in a network, studio, sports media company, or editorial outlet with a dedicated focus on sports and live event photography.
- A solid roster of professional sports, entertainment, and editorial photographers.
- Preferred experience in live television and sports broadcasting.
- A strategic thought partner and a strong team player.
- Deadline-driven and agile in high-pressure event settings with excellent time management skills.
- A keen eye for producing impactful photo assets.
- Experience in international markets is a plus.
- Able to juggle a high volume of complex projects and tasks for multiple departments simultaneously while managing competing priorities on tight timelines.
- Self-reliant, decisive, and a strategic thinker with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Solid organizational capabilities, effective time management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate successfully with internal and external teams.
- Understanding and interest in Federal copyright laws, usage licenses, embargoes, and athlete likeness rights.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the photography industry.
- Strong understanding of digital file specifications, size formats, and delivery workflows for sports media.
- Extensive experience with Adobe Suite, including Photoshop and related tools, is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of union and league associations, as well as broadcast regulations (e.g., SAG, DGA, Local 600 rules and regulations).
This position is based in Los Angeles and reports to the Senior Manager of Photo Studio, Film, Animation & Sports. We use market indicators along with your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine fair compensation. This can result in variations based on location.
The comprehensive market range for roles in this area of Netflix typically falls between $180,000 and $220,000, based on total compensation packages. This range reflects our compensation philosophy. Netflix is a distinctive culture and environment.
