Consumer And Small Business Credit Officer I

The position is responsible for the quality, safety and soundness of the credit portfolio associated with the bank's consumer and small business portfolio. This is achieved through the review, proper structuring and appropriate decisioning of credit request; ongoing monitoring of the credit portfolio to identify problem areas and assure appropriate assignment of credit grades; providing assistance with structuring of workout solutions; and delivering ongoing coaching to lenders throughout the bank. Efficiently review and evaluate consumer and small business requests in order to approve or recommend approval to a higher authority within the bank's credit team. Make sound credit decisions, based on established lending policies. Maintain compliance with all established lending laws and regulations. Manage inflow of credit request to insure credit decisions are rendered in a timely manner and within service level agreements set for the team. Assist lending officers to assure they are clearly identifying the bank's risk and utilizing appropriate underwriting techniques, properly structuring credits, while notating and mitigating exceptions to policy. Assist in maintaining appropriate composition of loans within the portfolio as directed by the bank's credit risk committee. Assist in ensuring each loan and relationship is assigned a credit risk grade to accurately reflect risk. Assist lending officers to assure credit exposure is appropriately identified and to monitor limits established by the bank. Assist lenders and/or Asset Recovery Team with the identification and remediation of problem loans within the consumer and small business portfolio and insure appropriate action is taken to minimize risk of loss. Assist lenders in developing appropriate financial or other credit related questions for customer calls. Work with Senior Credit Officer on updates and improvements to the consumer and small business credit decision platform, to include changes to decision criteria and testing of decision criteria. Perform other duties as assigned. Ability to understand accounting practices used in the preparation of personal and business financial statements, and tax returns, to include those of non-profit organizations. Knowledge of consumer and small business credit analysis and how it should be applied in the credit decision process. Ability to render timely and effective credit decisions, based on quantitative and qualitative credit decision criteria. Knowledge of pertinent bank credit policy, laws and regulatory requirements as they apply to consumer and small business lending. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with associates with varying experience levels and responsibilities. Strong attention to detail, to include effective personal time management and the monitoring and management of work activity within the consumer and small business credit team. Ability to handle sensitive customer information. Excellent computer skills using related software i.e. Word, Excel and other bank proprietary software. Have a decisive nature, possess an ability to work independently with limited supervision, seeking assistance as needed. Bachelor or Master's degree in business or a related field with a preference in finance or accounting. Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit analysis, lending, underwriting or credit approval of small business and consumer loans
