Editorial Assistant

to join our

Children’s Editorial team .

The Editorial Assistant provides editorial and administrative assistance to the Children’s Publisher, the Editorial Director for commercial fiction, and the Licensing Editor.

What you’d be doing

Taking notes in meetings, managing mailings to authors and agents, processing expenses, maintaining calendars and meeting agendas, and handle general editorial tasks as needed.

Trafficking and logging editorial materials on active projects, liaising with other departments (managing editorial, design, production, sales, marketing, publicity, contracts, and accounting).

Communicating with authors, artists, and agents.

Managing schedules and due dates for major publishing programs, and communicating between teams to make sure materials are accurate and distributed on time.

Writing fact sheets, catalogue copy, P&L drafts, and cover copy.

Editorial tasks also include: light proofreading, collating multiple sets of galleys, and making text corrections.

Managing the approval process between Abrams and licensor partners, which includes uploading to individual licensor portals and keeping track of feedback deadlines.

Coordinate with Brand Strategy manager to supply information for yearly publishing plans and business reviews for licensor partners.

Vetting submissions and responding to proposals/submissions/inquiries.

Arranging schedules, calendar, and general administrative duties for the Publisher.

Creating and managing PowerPoint presentations for (4) four meetings a year to present titles internally.

We’re looking for someone who has

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Ability to work independently and follow through consistently on assignments.

Detail oriented: Position requires accuracy and careful attention to detail.

Excellent grammar, spelling, communication, and writing skills.

Copyediting/proofreading experience helpful.

Must be highly organized, energetic, and able to juggle multiple priorities efficiently and calmly.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and PowerPoint needed.

Demonstrated interest in children’s books, popular brands, and adult commercial fiction.

This position is in New York, NY, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence three days per week.

The base salary range for this position is ($38,000 to $40,000) per year. The final offer will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
